Galaxy 1-1 Columbus Crew (And Kyle Veris is Back!)
By: Laurie | March 20th, 2007
Sunday night in Santa Clarita, a 1-1 draw with the Columbus Crew. Goal by Kyle Martino in the 8th minute. (And this has to feel good for Kyle, because the Crew is his former team.) So what did the goal look like?
“Peter Vagenas received a pass from Landon Donovan and quickly played it over the top of the Crew backline for Martino who was breaking in on the left. The L.A. midfielder was able to settle the pass and place a shot that Columbus goalkeeper Andy Gruenebaum was able to get a hand on, but it was not enough to stop it from ending up in the back of the net. The goal was the first of the preseason for Martino.”
Sounds like the Galaxy were pretty dominant but couldn’t find the net, even after a Columbus defender was sent off at the end of the first half. Columbus equalized on a penalty shot in the 49th minute after one of their players was fouled by Ty Harden in the box.
But none of this was what got my attention. What caught my eye was a little line in the “Misconduct Summary”: LA- Kyle Veris (Yellow Card) 43′
Kyle Veris? The Kyle Veris we’d practically given up for dead? Yes, that Kyle Veris. It looks like he’s back after disappearing for something like two weeks. So where was he? Injured? Benched? Taking care of a sick grandma? I have no idea.
Hey! Kyle! Where the hell have you been? Don’t you know that when my players go missing for several games in a row I become maternally activated? I know you’re a grownup and all, but when you don’t write and you don’t call… Well, sweetie, I worry.
Don’t let it happen again.
(And welcome back.)
Los Angeleas Galaxy: Joe Cannon, Chris Albright, Ty Harden, Tyrone Marshall (Kyle Veris 32′), Mike Randolph, Peter Vagenas, Kevin Harmse, Quavas Kirk (Santino Quaranta 46′), Kyle Martino (Robbie Findley 72′), Landon Donovan (Josh Garnder 46′), Nate Jaqua.
