Galaxy 12-4 Hollywood United
By: Laurie | November 6th, 2007What with all the excitement going on in and around Beckham’s shorts, I almost forgot to report on the actual game. Let’s fix that, shall we?
By all accounts, the charity match between the Galaxy and Hollywood United was lots of fun for all involved, despite being a bit of a blowout. The Galaxy won 12-4 with scores by pretty much everybody. (For some reason I can’t get any of the match reports to load. Stupid computer. But reader George says, “Let’s see — hat trick by Buddle; two goals each from Beckham, Klein, and Mike Caso; one each from Vagenas, Harmse, and Cobi.” That’s twelve and he was there, so I’m assuming this is all the research I need to do. )
As reported yesterday, David Beckham was playing all out, a fact that had nothing to do with the fact that a certain Steve McClaren happened to be in the audience. Several articles reported on a hard tackle on Franck LeBoeuf, but LeBoeuf himself wasn’t bothered. What did make him a touch upset, though? When Becks tried to nutmeg him.
“That (ticked) me off,” said LeBeouf, who managed two goals in the Galaxy’s 12-4 victory.
“The tackle I don’t care about. He’s a professional player. When I was a player, I had the same character. When I play cards, I can’t stand losing. He will calm down when he becomes like me.”
Or, in other words, David, you’ll mellow when you get old.
Anybody believe that?
Reader George also reports that some of the players stayed to sign autographs after the game, notably Joe Cannon and Cobi Jones. A class act to the end, is our Cobi. And Cannon’s not too bad himself.
And best of all, they raised over $100,000 for victims of the California wildfires. Nice work, guys!

Actually, it was even better — we got the autographs right from our seats! Since there was $20 open seating we just sat up front and got the signatures as the guys passed by. Like I said, Awesome.

The game was so fun. I liked how we could pick our own seats and I also sat in the front row and a lot of players were signing autographs. Joe stayed quite awhile. I had him sign my Joe Cannon key chain. Landon signed, Kyle and other players too. They were really nice guys. Players from HUFC also signed. I got Superman’s (Brandon Routh) autograph as well. He was really beautiful sunday.

Yes Steve (The Jerk) Mclaren was there… BUT word is he was there to interview for job of LAG Coach (Oh! PLEASE NO!!!….which way is Mecca????!!!) as he will soon be Jobless. I Love Becks… but surely this isn’t His doing… Mclaren can’t take a horse to water so Where would anyone think he’s going to take LAG?
BTW.. I am FOR Landon Donovan and seriously hope he will not be moving on:Posted from

There’s a Joe Cannon key chain? Where do I get one of those?

Jan, I’d have trouble believing that too. Becks invite McClaren anywhere!? After dumping him from the England NT in such a nasty manner last summer? And then so mismanaging the team that they’re close to failing to qualify for a European Championship for the first time since 1984. I know Beckham is supposed to be nice, and supposedly good at letting bygones be bygones, but that might constitute something closer to insanity.
PLEASE make it not be true, McClaren is bad at every single thing on both fan and Galaxy brass wish lists.Posted from

I bought the Joe Cannon key chain at that mls gear website. I cant really find anything of Joe at the HDC cos its all Becks stuff, but they have a couple of things at the website.

Kyle Martino signed my ticket. That totally made my day. Week, even. He is such a nice guy; he was signing a lot during half time and taking pictures with the fans. I was sitting up front as well and was having the best time watching both the game and the players on the bench. Alan Gordon and Pete Vagenas were having the time of their lives when they were on the bench. Now *that* would’ve been a killer seat.

Tiffany, I was starting to wonder if I was the only Martino fan left. Thanks for letting me know I’m not.
(And I want the world to be aware that I am speaking here from a strictly maternal and soccer play perspective, despite all of my Martino groin-related posts.)
