Galaxy 2-1 Toronto: The Dream Continues

By: Laurie | October 13th, 2007

This is me, with my mind filled with, like, love, and happiness, and, y’know, world peace and an end to famine and stuff.

And…um…wine. (Which does make the Galaxy games much easier to watch. I highly recommend it.)

Seriously, though, what a great day! I dragged myself out of bed this morning to watch my beloved France National Team take a 6-0 win over the Faroe Islands, and then tonight I watched my beloved Galaxy keep their playoff hopes alive. Does it get any better than this? It think not.

(Well, technically, it would have been better if Georgia had beaten Italy and bumped them out of Euro qualifier position, and if DC had beaten Chicago rather than settling for a nil-nil draw. But we’ll take what we can get.)

And what we can get is three points! Yea, woohoo, etc.

I’m not buying into those Galaxy-must-get-into-the-playoffs conspiracy theories, but luck in the form of things like red cards does seem to go our way lately, doesn’t it? Yes, the last Toronto defender pulled Gavin Glinton down in the box, which is technically a red card offense… But I can think of at least one Galaxy defender who’s done the same thing with just a yellow. So…well…make of this what you will. Because we won!

The goals were a Landon Donovan PK after that Glinton pull-down, and then a Donovan-to-Chris Klein-to-Edson Buddle-to-goal thing that was really pretty. It has to be an amazing feelingfor Edson Buddle to score the game winner against his former team, particularly since he hasn’t been fit and on the field much lately. And I am loving Chris Klein more every week.

And the more the season goes on, the more I’m also loving Frank Yallop. His starting and substitution choices are exquisite. He really has a feel for what this team is capable of at any given moment. (And I’m glad that the Klinsmann thing was just a rumor.)

You know what the best part was, though? Seeing David Beckham, in his suit, coming down to congratulate the team and knowing they did it without him. Not because there’s anything wrong with Beckham, of course, but because the team was created earlier this year with the apparent belief that the season couldn’t be complete without him. And yet it has been. Who would have thought this possible in the middle of the year?

Whether or not we make the playoffs, I am so proud of these guys for surviving this year with style. Go, Galaxy!!

It was a joy to watch this game!

I also really noticed Chris Klein's play for the first time this season. He is such a smart player. He really shows a lot of maturity in his decision making and he's got the fitness to boot. I'm growing very fond of his play. AND he's a nice guy.

Just image what we could be doing if we had Findley actually finishing chances instead of Pavon missing them.

It is nice to see what the Galaxy are capable of and showing true heart and class. If the season would have gone a little differently from the start without all of the hoopla and terrible schedule, plus a couple of the games that they just didn't show any fight plus w/ all the injuries, things could be so different right now. If they make the playoffs (cross our fingers) or not, I'm a true Galaxy fan and proud of the team. It would be interesting to see other teams placed in this position and see how they would handle it. With the win over Toronto, isn't this the longest win streak of any team this season?

Yes...tonight was a glorious-entire-family-beer-nachos-party night! Fire up the plasma, pump up the stereo, and watch our Boys kick some ass. Playoffs here we come!

Gavin Glinton = supersub. I'm almost scared to see him start because he's been doing all his magic while coming off the bench in the last few games.
  • Oh, and Ian? I've always had a hard time getting a visual fix on the verb "to suck ass." Are we talking upper, outer cheek, or a bit more up close and personal? My inability to comprehend this phrase has led to me never, ever using it. Until now. You are witnessing a lifetime first.

And yes, I am enjoying this. (Meaning...um...the Galaxy's success.)

Congrats on Scotland's victory. I'm now counting on you to take down Italy. Then we can both be happy.
  • Oh, fine, Nathan, stick your sharp little pin in my Balloon o' Joy. :-)

I am also a bit concerned with our lack of depth, though. I was watching Chicago tonight and with each sub I was thinking, "Oh, yes, that's an improvement. Wonder why he didn't start?"

In general, you don't say that with the Galaxy. With the possible exception of Glinton, if you're healthy and adequate, you're on the field.

Yep Yallops a genius when you look at the list of unused subs you can see how a carefully crafted brilliant plan was assembled from... absolutely no other real choices. I must be a brilliant coach too cos I would have done the same with those very limited options.

I really don't understand how the Galaxy sucked so much ass for so much of the season, only to suddenly, and with really no warning, start beating everybody. It's insane. It's like waking up one day and reading Variety and finding that Big Momma's House is now the world's highest grossing film ever. I hope you're enjoying this time, because it really is remarkable.

    Signed,
The other suddenly happiest person on Earth,
    A Scotland fan
