Galaxy 3-2 RSL

By: Laurie | June 17th, 2007

Was it my imagination? Was it the fact that we were playing a tired RSL? Or did the Galaxy have some actual momentum today?

Sometimes getting traded is just the spark that’s needed to light a fire under one’s butt, and it appears that it may be the case with Edson Buddle. He looked fairly impressive today, scoring his first goal of the year and being a fast, visible presence on the field. And he has some height, too, which we’ve been missing this year. He seemed to take some pressure off of Nate Jaqua, who also got his first goal of his Galaxy career. (I’ve watched the replays something like five times, and I still can’t tell which body part knocked the ball into the net. But I guess it doesn’t really matter, right?)

And Abel Xavier was a pleasant surprise. (Aside from that teensy little sixth-minute boo-boo.) There’s more to him than hair. He has a pretty touch and a good eye for the field and looks like he’ll be a solid addition to the back line. (And FSN commentators? You really should read this blog for pronunciation pointers.)

Cobi Jones gave himself a birthday present with a solid game and the game-winning goal. Yea, Cobi! For this we’ll forgive that silly photo.

It was also good to see Quavas Kirk starting again and Troy Roberts and Gavin Glinton back on the field, Troy after hip surgery and Gavin after that I-Don’t-Want-Details surgery. Glinton had a couple of good runs and looked like he has the potential to be a threat this season.

The bad news is that Pete Vagenas went down with an injury in stoppage time (quadricep? knee, maybe?) and it didn’t look good.

I’ll post more tomorrow, but for now we can revel in the fact that we’re no longer tied for worst. Nine points looks a whole lot better than six.

Yes, I’m glad the FSC announcers were there to tell me what a good job “Aaeebel” was doing. Also they were helpful in reminding me that he had played in the English Premier League, which it turns out from their pre-game Google search is actually quite a popular program on the BBC. Also, they call it “football” over there. Seriously, where do they find these guys?

I tip my hat to you, Gals, you are slightly less sucky than us. And technically, you’re third from last in the league now since you’re above Columbus on goal diff, so congrats. I wish I remembered what it was like to win a game …

Great game, though they did allow two goals. But, I’ll forgive it since we won!

Yeah, those two goals. What was up with that? Don’t they know RSL can’t score?

The first was obviously one of those let-down-after-we-score kind of things. Need to watch those. The second one? I still haven’t figured that out. Ty Harden is a great defender. Except when he’s not.

But they won. So those goals against don’t count, right?

All I learned about Ty Harden in that match is that every time I say “Ty Harden”, all I can think of is that if Dan Patrick from ESPN ever mentioned Ty Harden, he’d call him “Live free or Ty Harden”, which would be the best Dan Patrick nickname … ever.

    “Live free or Ty Harden”?

I hate to say it, but that sounds vaguely obscene.
