Galaxy Again Head to The Dick Without Beckham

By: Laurie | August 26th, 2007

Once again, the Galaxy head to The Dick. (Aka Dick’s Sporting Goods Park in Colorado.) And once again, they do it without Beckham. Let’s hope the results are better than last time. (Which, if you’ve forgotten, were a 0-1 loss on a goal by Herculez Gomez after Kyle Martino got red-carded.)

Our injury list is getting excruciating. No pun intended. Because it’s not funny.

What’s Colorado’s injury situation? COLORADO RAPIDS – OUT: DF Dan Gargan (R knee ACL tear) …

Or one, count ‘em, one player.

And, in comparison, what’s LA’s?

LOS ANGELES GALAXY – OUT: DF Chris Albright (R hamstring); MF David Beckham (L ankle); MF Kelly Gray (R calf); DF Ty Harden (R hip); DF Ante Jazic (R ankle); QUESTIONABLE: DF Quavas Kirk (L foot); MF Cobi Jones (R hip); DF Abel Xavier (L knee); PROBABLE: FW Edson Buddle (L Achilles); DF Troy Roberts (R ankle); DF Kyle Veris (R hip); MF Peter Vagenas (R quadriceps)

That’s twelve — count ‘em, twelve — people with injuries of some sort for the Galaxy. And that’s not counting Landon, who picked up some sort of calf thing on international duty but is apparently either a) all better or b) not telling anybody.

Can somebody please explain to me how LA agreed to all this end-of-season schedule back-loading that MLS did on account of Beckham? It seems as if somebody, at some point, would have said, “Uh…no. This is not in our team’s best interest and invites multiple injuries. So, again, no. Just no.”

And, of course, we have Kevin Harmse suspended for the game due to the Beckham-sparked GoldenBrawl. (That’s not original, but I thought it was clever. We need clever to get us through this season, right? Otherwise we’d just curl up and die of terminal melancholia.) Combine the injury list with the red card and what do we have? Thirteen total players who could, in theory, be out. Which is more than half the team.

But at least we have three keepers. That’s something, right?

Can this season please be over now?

And okay, yeah, fine, here’s your link to the freakin’ game guide.

(Damn. The game guide didn’t cheer me up. I really am depressed.)

Game 4:00 PST on Galavision and FSN-W. I don’t get either of these channels. Would somebody be willing to record it for me?

So 45 minutes down and we are already losing 3-0. How sad. This situation could be worse if Real beats Chivas today...although, that probably won't happen.

So the game has started and in Galavision, they began the game by mentioning that Yallop is "for now" the Galaxy's coach. They mentioned all the rumors about Yallop's exit...why isn't Lalas? That's just my wishful thinking.

BTW - our starting lineup was what we thought...all of our subs. It is going to be a long 90 minutes.

No problem Laurie. I'll transfer both games to DVD this week and send them your way.
  • Mirna, Spanish would be fine. I watched the entire World Cup in Spanish and speak Spanish soccer (as opposed to actual Spanish) adequately. GOOOOOOOL is the same in any language. Thanks!

I know we have discussed this but I don't think that firing Yallop will do much to help us at this point. We need a couple of quality players in this roster. Will Lalas do the right thing and look for the right players for next season? I doubt it. I have lost all my faith in Lalas. Let's see what's in sotre for us in about an hour.

I am so with you Laurie. I just wish it was October and things will be over because they are certainly not getting better. I hope Landon is not hurt...we seem more like a hospital than a team these days.

I'm going to tivo the game and can put it in the same DVD for you (with the NY/LA game) if you want. Would you mind if it is in Spanish? I have to tape it for my dad and he wants it from Galavision. Let me know.

Look, we got a new player:

  • Chris, I got your e-mail -- thanks! I'll put up a post on this as soon as I can kick a child off the desktop where all of my login info is stored.

All might not be lost this season. Rumors of Yallop's demise are growing. Check out: http://mlsrumors.blogspot.com/...

Also, they SHOULD fire anyone connected with this let's-play-all-of-our-games-at-the-end-of-the-season rubbish!

David Beckham should NOT be playing Any games until he's 100% recovered. The Galaxy invested $250M and are putting the investment in jeopardy!!! Also, just about the entire team needs to be fired except for the middle
of the team i.e. Joe Cannon, Xavier, Beckham, Donovan Jazic and maybe Harmse.

The Galaxy needs players that are intense, can take on opponents one on one. We need a completely revamped team for 2008.

Forget about 2007 and let Beckham recuperate 100%.
  • I was at the game where my beloved USL1 team, the Seattle Sounders, demolished the Rapids 5-0. So I know firsthand that the Rapids have no offense.

This will not help us today.
  • I hadn't heard about Donovan or Xavier. That's killer.

LA Times is reporting that the following players didn't even make the plane:

    Becks
    Donovan
    Xavier
    Harden
    Gray
    Jazic
    Albright

And of course Harmse is suspended. So 72% of the starters aren't even in Commerce City.

Add to that the walking wounded of Vagenas, Jones, Veris, Buddle, and Roberts.

This one's going to be ugly. We're going to make it look like the Rapids have an offense.

MLS needs to take some blame here.

This, of course, says nothing about the Lalas Destruction Factor which guaranteed that even when healthy these guys would not be able to play as a team.

Can't see us even scoring on Wednesday against Pachuca.

    The Lost Season sputters on.
