Galaxy Beat the Raging Rhinos!
By: Laurie | March 23rd, 2007
The official name of the team we played yesterday is the “Rochester Raging Rhinos.” How cool is that name? Seriously. It’s so cool that it could almost make me consider moving to Rochester. Yes, it’s that cool.
We beat the Raging Rhinos yesterday 3-2, but it wasn’t the cakewalk that a lot of folks probably expected, given that the Rhinos are a First Division team. What happens when you let your guard down? The Raging Rhinos score on you. Twice. In two minutes. (The 14th and the 15th.) And then they carry that lead into halftime. Ouch.
But fortunately it sounds like our guys came into the second half ready to play. Scoring summary for the Galaxy?
LA: Kyle Martino (Nate Jaqua) 49′, Chris Albright 67′, Nate Jaqua (Santino Quaranta) 75′
Is Kyle Martino having a great week or what? And Landon Donovan was prepping for the USMNT games back in the states, so Frank Yallop got to shuffle things around a bit. Santino Quaranta got to play the whole game, which makes me happy AND allows me to post this great, smiling Santino picture that’s been sitting on my hard drive for weeks.
Los Angeles Galaxy lineup: Steve Cronin, Ian Russell (Josh Tudela 62′), Ty Harden, Ante Jazic, Mike Randolph, Peter Vagenas, Robbie Findley, Kyle Martino (Chris Albright 59′), Cobi Jones, Nate Jaqua, Santino Quaranta.
Note that there’s no sign of Josh Gardner or Alan Gordon, the two players DuNord tells us were let go this week. I’m feeling another pain coming on in my maternal area.

It shouldn’t be surprising that the Rhinos took it to you – it’s a bigger game for them than it is for Galaxy, and they took advantage of being underestimated and almost ran away with this one. Besides, they were only one point away from winning First Division last season. If only there was a relegation / promotion spot, we’d see more of this type of game and winning the USL division would actually mean something.

Ian, I am SO with you on the promotion/relegation thing. I don’t understand why it’s considered such a bad thing. I think it’s a lot more interesting than the, “Oh, let’s just let EVERYBODY into the playoffs!” attitude.
And I see that Puerto Rico beat Dallas 1-0 yesterday, so our guys will need to be on their toes tomorrow too.
