Galaxy Fans, About Last Night…

You know when you wake up after a particularly bad night? And you feel like ice picks are being driven into each eye, independently? And your mouth tastes like it’s been used for nuclear waste disposal? And the quease in your stomach could dissolve coins? And you’re terrified at the thought of lifting the covers beside you to see what that human-sized lump is?

This is kind of like that.

Or…um…so I’ve…um…seen in the movies.

But you guys said it best, so I’ll share a sampling of your comments from last night:

Glen says:

first half was bad, no flow what so ever and the backline looked shaky at best. cronin looked unsure of himself. Beckham looked like he wanted to go back to England

second half looked much better for the Galaxy. some of the guys from the draft have potential and I liked the goal keeper.

Misareaux says:

The Galaxy just don’t have stability, in the FO or on the field. Very few of our veteran players have played more than a season together, its really only Vagenas and Donovan. Now with a revolving door on vets and the team of inexperienced rooks, there’s no continuity for the team to achieve, nor develop the potential we have filling out our roster.

CentralCoaster says:

I was telling myself “Its only preseason” but then I saw the first half of the Houston game and realized how far we have to go to be a respectable team (i.e. make the playoffs) in this league.

Jon says:

As has been said, LA looked shocking. I’m willing to attribute 70% of that to it being preseason. But the other 30% is just plain old suck. The D. Not impressed with Cronin as your starter. I think the forwards didn’t have one bit of finishing skill.

Could be a rough year.

(And let’s not mention that Houston came out and just tore Sydney FC to pieces. That’s just depressing, except for the tiny frisson of yippee-we’re-MLS-and-we’re-a-real-league kum-bah-yah fulfillment.)*

And then some calming words of wisdom from Nicole:

Why are some of y’all in a panic? This was the FIRST match for some – most – of our players. We’re talking about rookies just out of college. And they showed promise. 2nd half was much better than the first…which is what you want. Getting better each half.

Why compare to Houston? They clearly came to win, they didn’t start (or play) too many newbies at all.

There’s nothing to criticize here. I like how Ruud is approaching this. NOW is the time to find out who can play and who can’t and how we want to play. Great learning experience.
