Galaxy Fans, Which Players Would you NOT Want Traded?
By: Laurie | June 22nd, 2007I will admit to a fickle heart. On any of the teams I support, there are very few players who could break my heart by getting traded. Sure, I love them while they’re here. But if there’s a chance that we could get somebody better?
Sayonara, guys. It’s been fun.
So I look at the trades of the past week kind of dispassionately. I liked Tyrone Marshall, but Edson Buddle? He SCORED! And as long as we have an offense that puts in more goals than our defense lets in, we’re good on the balance.
I’m not saying I’m really satisfied with yesterday’s trade; like I said, it feels like we’re giving away the future for one huge 2007 blowout. But as far as the players go? I liked Robbie Findley, but with the new offensive firepower coming in he was going to waste away on the bench. Put him to use at RSL. And Nate Sturgis? I liked him too. Strong play and excellent potential. But me and Sturgis? We never really bonded. I’m sorry, Nate. It’s not you, it’s me.
It sounds as if the bloodbath isn’t over yet, and more trades are expected as we prepare for Le Beckham. So if you’re attached to any of the current players, brace yourself.
This got me to thinking. Which of the Galaxy guys would I really, really not want to see traded? Even if we got something slightly better in return? And for me it came down to three:
Ty Harden (mostly because we share an alma mater and he has potential)
Kyle Martino (I just love his passion this season) and
Cobi Jones (because he gives his all and deserves to finish here)
I know you’ll disagree and have your own “Never let them go!” players. I’m curious as to who they are.

Cobi has a no trade clause, so he is Galaxy for life…or for the rest of the season.

Thanks, Shenn. In Cobi’s case I was thinking hypothetically rather than practically, as in “which player would my heart have problems seeing in another jersey.” And Cobi would obviously top that list!

Laurie,
I’m the new guy at RSL’s blog and I’m just getting to know my neighbors. It looks like we have a few things in common….Sturgis, Findley…losing. Godd luck with Klien. He is a nice guy with incredible endurance on the pitch but…well I’ll let you find out. Stop by to chat anytime.

Cobi Jones (because when he takes photos with cute girls frolicking on the beach, you can really appreciate his terrific acting skills)

I would have said Kevin Hartman if you asked me last year. And the year before that, Paulo Nagamura. Do I dare say it? … Ok, but don’t blame me if he’s somewhere else next year … Vagenas.

Uh-oh, Peter. Be afraid. Be very afraid. You have just received The Curse of Doug.

I don’t want to mention anyone. I didn’t want Hartman to be traded, after his trade I found solace in the fact that we had Sturgis. I hated Jaqua since the game vs. the Crew in Santa Clarita, and liked Findley. I saw a bright future. In short there were three guys I wanted the Gs to keep, and they’re all gone.
