Galaxy Get Israel Sesay (or: When is it Good to be this Bad?)
By: Laurie | August 27th, 2007
Since we’ve been dealing with so much bad news, I thought I’d share some good news for a change. The Galaxy won the lottery!
No, not that lottery (and a fat lot of good it would do them with the salary cap in place anyhow.) I’m talking about the Israel Sesay lottery! (Which somehow slipped in under my radar until it had already happened.)
Who is Israel Sesay, you ask? Well, I’ll tell you. He’s a US U-17 forward and part of Generation Adidas. And what does this mean? According to MLSnet,
he will occupy one of the three available spots on the Galaxy’s Developmental Roster and his salary will not count toward the club’s salary budget.
Woohoo! Let’s hear it for not counting toward the salary cap!
And how did Sesay get to be a member of the Galaxy? Well, that’s where the whole “it’s good to be this bad” thing comes in. Seems there’s a lottery of these players that’s weighted toward the worst teams. And guess what! It was definitely weighted in our favor this year! Climbing the Ladder can tell you more.
