Galaxy, Gullit and that Fitness Thing
By: Laurie | February 16th, 2008
Articles all over the place on the Ruud’s attempts to get our guys really, really fit. Two-a-days, with healthy meals provided.
This is excellent news. No guarantee our boys won’t fall apart this season, but at least they’ll be healthy and fit if it happens.
My favorite part of the coverage, though, comes from Martin Rogers at Yahoo Sports, quoting Beckham:
“It has changed under Ruud. We eat breakfast when we arrive and have a light lunch of salad and pasta after the morning session. No more pancakes.
Because…yeah. The main ingredients of flour and eggs in pasta are SO much healthier than the main ingredients of flour and eggs in pancakes.
Now you know.

Quote of the day from CentalCoaster!
I’m amazed that the Galaxy wasn’t doing this before. It’s a bit sad that MLS, or at least the Galaxy organization, wasn’t run seriously enough to enforce strict nutrition rules like clubs in virtually every other sport.

pancakes and pasta are very different, I’m obsessed with healthy food, read 10000 books about that.
I eat pasta and salad twice a week for lunch. pancakes have carbohidrids that turn into fat in your body, but pasta don’tPosted from

Laurie your post reminds me of a coach I had who used to say, “We might lose by ten goals, but you boys will be run cirlces around them even after they have done all that scoring…” Fitness is one thing but team chemistry is another, and that is what this squad needs, and a bit more help from MLS to stack the side!?

salad and pasta beats pancakes at midday hands down. Go Ruud!
What we really need to know is what songs they sing doing laps…. from my 10 y.o.; her team sings songs that pump them up as a side, stretching, running, even the funny ladder training.
That’s a perfect kid-soccer-promo thing for Becks right there…
