Galaxy Linked to Yet Another Aging International
By: Laurie | June 14th, 2007
Okay, so yes, it’s probably unfair of me to call a guy who just scored four goals in one Gold Cup game an “aging international.” But technically there is no getting around the fact that Honduras player Carlos Pavón is thirty-three. For comparison purposes, Beckham is 32, Abel Xavier is 34, and Cobi Jones turns 37 on Saturday.
Oh, and retired France superstar Zinedine Zidane turns thirty-five next week. Not that this is relevant to anything. I just thought you might want to send him a card.
But at any rate. Thirty-three years old, turning 34 before the end of the season. No spring chicken. On the other hand, though? Four goals. In one game. Is there even a name for that? (I don’t know that any of my teams have ever had to deal with this question.) And the Galaxy haven’t scored much more than that this entire season.
So. Thirty-three years old, but four international goals in one game.
Oh, what the hell. Alexi, I give this one my blessing. Because I know you were waiting.
