Galaxy Odds and Ends for the Weekend
By: Laurie | March 23rd, 2007Roster Update DuNord was right about midfielder Josh Gardner. Definitely gone, alas. Alan Gordon, though? DuNord is now thinking he’ll be around awhile. His reasoning? How could they ever cut Mr. Herbalife himself?
Jersey news: Remember earlier when I said that the new jersey wouldn’t be unveiled till summer? I’m no longer certain that’s the case. The jersey definitely won’t be AVAILABLE till summer, but reader Diane heard on Fox Soccer channel that we’ll be able to SEE it on the Adidas website in April. That kind of makes sense, I guess. Let everybody spend several months desperately wanting what they can’t have, so that when you make it available… Wham. Serious pent-up demand. I’m not finding any sources that back this up yet, but hey, if somebody heard it on Fox Soccer it can’t be wrong. Right?
Real Madrid to US? MLSZone picked up a piece from a Spanish website about Real Madrid coming to the US.
President Ramon Calderon has confirmed that the Galacticos will face the Los Angeles Galaxy in a friendly where David Beckham will play the first half with Real Madrid and then switch jerseys at halftime and finish the game with the Galaxy. Pretty cool idea if it’s true. Additionally, Real Madrid will also play a match in Washington and another in either Chicago or Salt Lake City during their 10-day visit
As they say, pretty cool idea. If it’s true. I’m wondering if this would pre-date the Chelsea thing, which is supposedly Beckham’s first real US game. I’m also wondering if that “Washington” is DC or Seattle-type. Because Real Madrid was here last year and it was a truly cool game. (Seriously, is there anybody on that team who’s not an international? It was like watching a World Cup Reunion tour. Funny how badly they’re doing this year. But I digress.)
That’s it for me for the weekend. My beloved French guys (aka my Porsche team) are playing today, and afterwards I will probably be either celebrating or drowning my sorrows. (The #4 team in the world (France) is playing the #76 team (Lithuania.) So we should win, right? RIGHT?) Have a great weekend, and I’ll report back on the Puerto Rico game and offer up other scintillating stories on Monday.
