Galaxy Roster Update (Ha! Made You Look!)
By: Laurie | March 2nd, 2007How lame is coverage of the Galaxy roster this year? Well, the third hit when you Google “Galaxy Roster 2007″ was written by me. Because I’m such an expert.
Yesterday was Roster Deadline Day, but if the Galaxy made any changes, they’re not letting us know about them. Although they are telling us that Cobi Jones has been named a “Sports Legend” (love Cobi Jones) and “Galaxy Get a Kick Out of Reading.” Just so you know.
(Actually, I’m thrilled to see that last headline, because it clarifies something that has been troubling me since the inception of this blog: Galaxy, singular or plural? Now that this has been settled, I will be able to sleep again.)
But anyhow. Since the Galaxy aren’t telling us anything, let’s go to MLSnet. (Which, by the way, STILL has not updated the game-viewing links I paid for more than a month ago. I’m checking something like three times a day. This is becoming an obsession.) But at any rate. MLSnet provides us with some general roster news:
“Each club will be allowed to have no more than 28 players on its roster, including 18 senior roster members and 10 developmental players. Additionally, every team will be required to adhere to the rules regarding international players.”
Okay! So tell us, MLSnet! What are those rules regarding international players?
Each team can have no more than four senior internationals (25 years old or younger).
Thank you, MLSnet. (Now can somebody explain to me how being 25 years old or younger makes someone a “senior”? But I guess that’s not important.) Now what I’m really wondering is this: Is this the end of all player movement this offseason? Wait! MLSnet has the answer to this one too! Wow. They’re hella informative!
Roster compliance day is not the end of all player movement this offseason. Teams can still sign players, providing that player is not under contract anywhere else and the club has room on their roster and inside the salary budget. Teams can also waive players in order to make space for new acquisitions. MLS clubs can still make trades after Thursday.
So there you have it, folks. Everything I know about the LA Galaxy roster situation and much, much more!
