Galaxy Roster Update
By: Laurie | February 28th, 2007I don’t actually have an LA Galaxy roster update, because the LA Galaxy website doesn’t think we need to know these things. And while it is really fun to read about Easter egg hunts and Miss LA Galaxy… Well, sigh. Galaxy folks, you underestimate your audience.
Fortunately there are other teams with websites, so I can still find some information about what’s going on with, y’know, actual soccer. From the Chicago Fire: “All MLS teams must be in roster and salary compliance (18 Senior Roster, 10 Developmental Roster, 4 Senior International players) by the end of the day Thursday.”
If the Galaxy website is accurate (what do you think?) we’re not far out of compliance. Twenty on the main roster and seven (plus maybe the unlisted French guy?) listed as non-contract players. This last list includes all of the draft picks and supplemental draft picks except Robbie Findley. So it looks like the Galaxy may be doing more juggling than cutting. (The main roster is looking particularly heavy on the forwards and light on defense and in the midfield.)
Does Beckham need to go on the roster now, even though he’s still under contract at Real Madrid? Or is he added when he actually arrives? I don’t know, but I’m sure he’s one of the “4 Senior International players,” so it won’t affect the roster much one way or the other.
Click here to see what the website says is the current roster.

Is Darren Currie, Ipswich Town midfielder, heading your way for 2 week trial? Hesitate to believe anything I read anywhere anymore. If true, I am more confused than ever about how ANOTHER player at Galaxy can fit MLS’s salary guidelines–unless they are a volunteer.
p.s. (shhhh…) what did the guy in the last post MEAN???? Was it creepy or just one MORE subtlety that escapes me?
Dazed and confused,

p.p.s. I was asking what “pedrucho” meant, Luis is pretty clear.

Yes, Diane, that’s today’s post. I slept in because we had snow here last night, so everything’s delayed. Including me!!

Oh, Diane, Just finished your post and I’m LAUGHING!! Luis writes the Portugal page for WCB (where I write the France page.) We have a running joke about which player looks gayest. I think Cristiano Ronaldo wins hands down, he thinks otherwise and is quick to cast aspersions on my beloved (and COMPLETELY Heterosexual!!) French guys!!

And the Pedrucho comment… Offiside is having spam problems. Most of them are obvious to the computer and get screened out to a separate folder where I delete them. This one got through. I’ll go in and delete it when I’m done here. Or after I’ve had my coffee. Whatever.

You guys are hilarious. Happy to meet you and happy Mr. Ped is not stalking anyone, me in particular. And thank GAWD it turns out I don’t have to know player stats to be an MLS fan!!! Hmmm, gayest? On earth? These things are usually so clear to me…but there’s so much all boy hugging and smooching and weeping and non-bound body parts in football (HEAVEN!) that one doesn’t to know where to look first. I will follow your assessments closely

“there’s so much all boy hugging and smooching and weeping and non-bound body parts in football (HEAVEN!) that one doesn’t to know where to look first.”
I’m amazed more women have not discovered this. (Not that I PERSONALLY notice these things! Heavens, no!) When word finally gets out, soccer will be BY FAR the most popular sport among those of our gender.

This is my big fear about supporting the popularization of football/soccer in the U.S.–that the players will suddenly be forced to wear protective gear (EVERYwhere) and it will all just be so much less fun…you know, because they won’t be able to dribble as easily, I am ALWAYS watching out for the boys best interests of course…
