Galaxy Roster Updates

By: Laurie | March 7th, 2007

So I’m fairly certain that this is the conversation that went on with the Galaxy website guys yesterday morning.

Underling: Boss, bad news! Laurie at the LA Galaxy Offside blog is upset with us!
Boss: Laurie? Upset? We can’t have that! What does she want?
Underling: She’s mad that we haven’t given her anything on the roster! Or the preseason schedules!
Boss: This is a catastrophe! We need to keep her happy! Fix it, Flanders! Fix it!
Underling: I’m on it, boss. Because of course, that’s our main mission! Keep Laurie happy!!

Yeah, I’m fairly certain that’s how it went.

I’ll do schedules later. For now, you can check them out yourself at — believe it or not — the Galaxy website. For now, though, let’s talk about roster changes.

First off… Well, if you possess a maternal area like mine, brace yourself, because this is gonna hurt. Remember Superdraft pick Bobby Burling? The one with the big smile? The one whose aunts and uncles and cousins all did that Superdraft party I so wanted to attend? He’s been cut.

I know. I’m crushed too. Let’s hope for a soft landing in either the Reserves or with a nice First Division team where he can prove himself. Hang in there, Bobby!

The Galaxy also cut three players from the Supplemental Draft: Zach Kirby, Gordon Kljestan and Kiel McClung. This stings my maternal area a little bit too, but not quite so much. Because, to be honest, having Supplemental Draft picks is a little like having chickens. You don’t want to give them names, because then you get all attached, and then as soon as your back is turned their little heads are rolling in the dirt. Sad but true. Good luck in life, guys, and don’t forget to write!

I also have a little more on our somebody’s French guy, Laurent Merlin, but I’ll write that up in a later post. An excuse to give his female fans one more photo.

The website also tells us that we have “Four New Faces in Town.” Those faces would be our previously mentioned British midfielder, Darren Currie; defender Ritchie Kotschau, formerly of several other MLS teams. (Seriously. We’d be, like, the fifth.) Also midfielder John Thorrington, formerly of the Chicago Fire, and Canadian midfielder Kevin Harmse.

Hmm. Canadian? They speak French in Canada, eh? So this one might be fun to blog about.

And that’s it. There you have it. The official Galaxy roster updates.

Oh, and Galaxy website guys? I am flattered and honored by your care and concern. Green and gold* hugs to you both.

*Or whatever the hell colors we end up with.

Any word on where the hell Rui Fortes is? I’ve been searching high and low, and can’t find anything. ARGH!

Alas, Brian, our guy Rui was the first blow to my maternal area.

From LASoccerNews.com: “Fortes, though, was not asked to join the club to Bermuda and returned to his residence in Rhode Island.”

With any luck, though, the fact that he made the open tryuot cut will improve his stock with a lower-level team. What do you think?

Was there any mention of Kyle Veris? His name is not currently on the roster?

That’s kind of worrisome, Tom, especially since Kyle was the one who scored the own goal against the Revolution in Bermuda. However, he’s not on the “cut” list, so that’s a good thing. I’ll look into it and see if I can track down anything.

thanks Laurie. I know Kyle put in the own goal, but I think letting him go for that reason or in fact any reason would be a huge mistake. He’s 23, extremely athletic and will only continue to improve.
