Galaxy Take on Toronto

By: Laurie | October 12th, 2007

So are Toronto destined to be one more item of roadkill on the great Galaxy Highway to the Playoffs, or will they be the concrete roadblock that brings all dreams to a screeching, crashing halt?

For the answer to this question, tune in tomorrow, 7:30 Pacific. (FSC/FSE; CBC. And if you have the option of CBC, I highly recommend it.)

All reports seem to be saying that David Beckham won’t play, and I think that’s a good thing for a lot of reasons — partly for his own health and safety, and partly because the team has gelled without him, not to mention the kleig lights that follow his every move. Even when he’s healthy, I’m hoping they sub him in a few minutes at a time to slowly get the team used to the Beckham circus again.

On paper, the Galaxy should win this one. Toronto hasn’t exactly been a well-oiled scoring machine this season. In reality, though, these games tend to be the dangerous ones. (Ask RBNY, taken down by Toronto not too long ago.)

I’m not sure the injury roster is improving, but at least it’s rotating. There’s a chance that Abel Xavier and Kelly Gray may be back with us, but Kyle Martino and Ty Harden have both picked up hip injuries.

(What do you think? Is Kyle’s really an injury to the hip, or is he just saying that because he’s tired of me talking about his groin and wants my focus to be on Alan Gordon instead?)

INJURY REPORT: LOS ANGELES GALAXY – OUT: DF Chris Albright (R hamstring); MF David Beckham (R knee); FW Alan Gordon (L groin); DOUBTFUL: DF Ty Harden (L hip); QUESTIONABLE: DF Quavas Kirk (L foot); MF Kyle Martino (R hip); PROBABLE: MF Kelly Gray (L calf); DF Abel Xavier (L knee) …

TORONTO FC – OUT: GK Greg Sutton (concussion); MF Ronnie O’Brien (knee); FW Danny Dichio (ankle); DOUBTFUL: DF Jim Brennan (knee); QUESTIONABLE: DF Nana Attakora-Gyan (groin)

And yes, again, here’s your link to the Game Guide. (Don’t tell anybody, but I’m starting to find it kind of boring. Even the fact that the starting lineup is always wrong is becoming less amusing. But please don’t let that interfere with your own personal viewing pleasure.)

  • Stay tuned, CentralCoaster. I'll address this question at the end of the season.

Are you gonna ditch us once the Sounders join MLS?
  • Yeah, I'm not seeing any real reason to put Kelly Gray in either. Xavier, maybe, especially with Harden out.

If Kelly Gray (Back-passer and back-to-the-goal of the year awards winner) is in, we're truly screw-ed.
  • I hope LA doesn't take TFC lightly. They should be able to win, but I hope LA is not cocky. If there ever was going to be a letdown game, this could be it. C'mon LA, keep the hope alive!
