Galaxy vs. Chivas (and BRUCE ARENA?!?!?)
By: Laurie | August 14th, 2008The game is here, and the ESPN2 guys have just reiterated one of the top rumors of the past few days. Apparently Bruce Arena is in the HDC, having dinner with the AEG boys.
(NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!)
Okay. Deep breath. I’ve gotten that out of my system.
Leave comments on the game, and we’ll have more commentary later.

Well, I’ll take the point, but we really should have won that. Giving away that second goal was emblamatic of the entire season so far.

Whoa. Preki and Vagenas.

This should have been a win

Harris should have been carded. Totally reckless and excessive force trip.

I agree with you Nathan. We’re not done yet but it’s
getting real late, real quick. Still the effort was
good.Posted from

At least its a draw, but damn. I wanted a win for Cobi.

Come on Ref, card Preki. That’s bullshit.

“Giving away that second goal was emblamatic of the entire season so far.”
It has been emblematic for several years now. These difficult years will make the good years all that better when they get here.

JustJack, I totally agree on the Harris card. Maybe upon review by MLS. And thanks for the Napolean Dynamite prompt.

MLS seriously needs some quality ref’s, horrible officiating

half of the chivas team deserved cards

NathanHJ, the MLS doesn’t have the backbone/balls to do what they need to do with Harris. Harris has the most fouls in the MLS yet they do nothing about his play

It’s true that there are some pretty laissez faire refs in MLS. Part of the problem is USSF and FIFA conflicts. From what I’ve heard MLS is supposed to draw on FIFA intl grade refs, but often they are short so they draw from the USSF national grades and that doesn’t always help. The emphasis has traditionally been use the voice then the cards but in superclassicos judicious card use can work quickly where the voice is too slow. Part of the problem was the fourth official after the whistle is gathering up gear instead of watching the heated bench. SO when Preki comes out like a bull charging Galaxy players, that 4th official isn’t there and the center is busy shaking hands with players on the pitch. Alex is a decent FIFA ref but I think when you have a superclassico like this, with both teams trying to break losing streaks, it’s not a good idea to leave the cards in the pocket. Hence the inevitable escalation. But I know from FIFA refs complaints to USSF that often when one reads a match, one gets crap from either FIFA or USSF/MLS. But I agree, more higher quality officials are needed. That takes time. One thing they could do is raise the age ceiling of 38 yoa and they’d have a pool of quality retired intl FIFa refs to draw from.

That Harris trip was just atrocious and it wasn’t like it was the first time this match he’d done something so recklessly.

I’m off to watch swimming. Nite everyone. I hope we win the next one.

I feel that this was a game that we should have easily, definitely won. Chivas USA had a lot more critical players injured and not playing. And, we still couldn’t walk away with a win! Landon totally disappointed me today as a forward; but, thrilled & satisfied as an attacking midfielder and play-maker. The more I watch and study him, the more I’m convinced he is really, really afraid of getting injured – which is why he never challenges hard. We should have walked away with 3 points. I am so sick of the lack of strength & competitive aggressiveness in mainly three elder players of our team: Greg Vanney, Pete Vagenas, and Carlos Ruiz. I sincerely hope that someone, somewhere has the friggin’ balls to kick these losers out of the team for good. I am so upset! So disappointed! So angry! I’m glad I don’t have rackets or bats at my home – because I would have plunged through my TV after watching this game! Such wishy-washy sub-standard soccer. It’s not a problem with David, Edson, Landon, Chris, Sean, Ante, Mikey, Alvaro, or (may be, at some moments) even Alan… It’s the dead, fossil-like movements from Greg, the stupidity & mickey-mouse passes and plays from Pete, and the upsetting, clueless, hap-hazard positioning by Carlos. Lawd, it stinks to no end!!!

what’s happened to Dominguez, anyone know why he’s not playing?
Cronin actually had one of his better games.
