Galaxy vs. Crew Preview

First off, did anybody else know that Ian Russell had been waived? Caught me by surprise yesterday. He’s still listed on the injury list, and no official announcement was ever made that I saw, but Alexi verified it to…oh, can’t remember, but some legitimate journalist.

Sigh. Waivers cause me great pain in my maternal area. Goodbye, Ian! We’ll miss you. Sorry your un-retirement experiment didn’t have better results.

Moving on, though. The MLSnet article says: Winning Streak the Goal for Galaxy. Because yeah. Two. In a row. A streak for sure. (But yes, it would be nice.)

Carlos Pavon doesn’t have his work permit yet, so it looks like we’ll have to wait another week to see if he lives up to the Gold Cup hype. On the other hand, Ante Jazic and Kevin Harmse are done with their Team Canada time at the Gold Cup. And I’m guessing the ending is still a sore subject, but that’s a story for other bloggers to cover. What matters to us is that they’re back with the Galaxy, although neither is listed as an expected starter in my favorite weekly reading material, The Galaxy Game Guide. (Yes, it’s back! Color me happy.)

The injury list is the usual, although I’m happy to see that Pete Vagenas isn’t on it after the way he went out last week. Interestingly, Gavin Glinton, who subbed in last week for a few minutes, is now listed as “out.” And since the reason for the absence was sports hernia surgery and this is apparently a reinjury… Well, ick. And ouch. Also interesting is the fact that Quavas Kirk is still listed as questionable (rather than probable,) but he started last week and is listed as starting this week. Do the Injury Report guys not consult with the Starting Lineup guys or what?
