Galaxy vs. DC United Preview
By: jen | August 22nd, 2009I’m giddy as a school girl! I leave for the match in about 3 hours. Since I live in podunk Virginia, it will be a bit of a drive to get to DC. I’ve even made a sign that may or may not be like the title of this post. If they let me bring it in, it will be across the field from the camera on the left-ish side, near the corner flag.
And here’s something I never had to deal with when I was an LA season ticket holder.

It’s actually pouring at my house right now, with thunderstorms expected throughout the area (including DC) and a flood watch. So I’ve got my rain poncho in hand and ziploc bags for my camera and cell phone.
Okay, okay, on to the (brief) preview.
DC United is sucking right now, by their own admission. Not only have they lost 4 of their last 5 games, but three of those losses were by either 2 or 3 goals.
United also played this past Tuesday against C.D. Marathon in Honduras (and lost) with a long flight home on Wednesday. Compare that to the Galaxy’s win over the Fire in Chicago, and a short flight to D.C. on Thursday. I think I’d rather be the Galaxy, even though they played more recently.
Also, expect Beckham and Lewis to be back in the line up, with some good subs in Birchall and Klein, who both had significant playing time on Wednesday. Eskandarian and Buddle are both still listed as doubtful — they didn’t make the trip to Chicago, so I doubt they will be in tonight’s lineup, or on the bench.
Check out the match on FSC at 4:30 Pacific. If it’s not raining I might be able to send a comment via phone during halftime.
Go Galaxy!!!

Hey Jon, I was driving in from just north of Charlottesville.
I’ll be back later with some thoughts. The kids have me up early after a late night so I feel hungover. I guess those drinking days in college prepared me well for parenthood.

Tough but fun game to watch, especially with the rain. I think LA did well to get the point and keep inching up the table. I have to admit that besides Real Salt Lake I love to watch the Galaxy. And it is good to hear the pundits finally giving Bruce Arena credit for remaking the team over the past year and a half. I look back at what was happening when Arena arrived and I am pretty sure he should be in the running for coach of the year.

Rocky, I would agree about Arena. Anybody who can undo the damage wrought by Team AEG and Team Beckham is a maestro.

Galaxy could make a run at the Supporters shield.
