Galaxy vs. Rangers Tonight
By: Laurie | May 23rd, 2007The first of many exhibition games (and the only one I wish I could see), Galaxy vs. Rangers F.C. of Glasgow, Scotland tonight at 7:30.
Quote from Landon on the Galaxy website:
“I’ll probably think that (this is just an exhibition game) until I wake up in the morning and say, ‘I get to play Rangers tonight,’” said Landon Donovan. “Regardless of what kind of team they brought or who they’re playing, its still Rangers. Not many people can say they ever did that.”
Landon’s not expected to start, but he’s hoping to get some playing time. The starting lineup will probably be a mix of regular starters and reserves/developmental players. And even though the Rangers aren’t expected to play their standard starting lineup either, the game could be a challenge. The LA Daily News talked with Ty Marshall about playing the Rangers in 2001:
Galaxy defender Tyrone Marshall experienced firsthand the passion of Scottish football when he played against Rangers back in 2001 as a member of the now defunct Miami Fusion.
It wasn’t much of a contest: Rangers won 4-1. “It was one of those games where you were saying “Oh my God, are we going to touch the ball?”‘ he said.
Let’s hope things go a little better tonight.
The game will be broadcast on KNLA, Channel 27 (Spanish).
