Galaxy Week In Review

You’re a professional athlete, it’s spring training, so where do you train? Florida? Nope, that other state. Arizona? Ding! Ding! Ding!

So our sunny California Galaxy team has traveled to sunnier Arizona for a week of spring training where they met the Columbus Crew in a scoreless scrimmage on Sunday. Turns out Arizona is the place to be for most Western Conference MLS teams and western USL teams. Unless, of course, you’re Chivas USA, in which case you head to Mexico. The Crew was doing double duty having recently returned home from Florida only to head to Arizona for the Galaxy scrimmage. You got all of that?

Anyway, the scrimmage was a first look at the team in action for coach Bruce Arena. Here are the line ups and video highlights from the match.

First half: Ricketts, Dunivant, *Leonardo, Gonzalez, DeLaGarza, Lewis, Kovalenko, *Juninho, *Bowen, Magee, Buddle.

Second half: Saunders, *Alex Cuzumba, Berhalter, Marshall, Franklin, Magee, *Stephens, Birchall, Klein, Kirovski, Jordan

*players new to the Galaxy this preseason

We are now just over 4 weeks away from the start of the MLS season. It’s still early to form an opinion on the new guys, but I think we’re looking at another great season ahead — this time with fewer ties.

Still seems unlikely to me. But I'd be happy for him and the MNT if it works out.

Hard to focus on Galaxy with the world cup prep underway. I didn't see Wednesday's game, but followed it on match tracker and read a lot about it. Seems to me that unless Davies recovers, Bradley should play Altidore and either Dempsey or Donovan up front, with the other as an attacking midfielder. Put Bradley as a defensive mid. The wings I don't quite know. Maybe Beasley on the left. In back I'd make Bornstein a bench player and start Spector, Demeritt, Gooch, and Boca. Howard in goal of course. Does that not make sense?
