Galaxy – Wizards Preview

Am I right in thinking that the Galaxy has not fielded the same starting lineup all year? I think I’m right. But tonight could actually be the night it finally happens. Everybody who played on Wednesday is here and healthy (knock wood), and they seemed to be playing well together.

Do you think it’s good or bad that I’m actually feeling somewhat confident about this one? Not hugely confident, because this is LA and MLS. But I’m not used to this feeling and it kind of scares me.

KC Wizards players Eddie Johnson and Jimmy Conrad, All-Stars both, may or may not be playing today. If they do, they’ll have just gotten back from CopaAmerica. I’m thinking that if they’re in town they’ll play, because KC has been seriously hurtin’ without them – 0-3-2 since Johnson left. But if they play, they’ll be travel-weary, so they may not be their usual selves. Which would be just fine with me.

As far as injuries, I’m sure you’ve heard that Kevin Harmse will be out 3-6 weeks with a knee sprain. Other than that, Kyle Veris and Chris Albright are the only injuries. KC will be missing Matt Groenwald (blood clots) and Ryan McMahen (torn ACL).

If I’m not mistaken, the Game Guide is listing the starting lineup as the same as Wednesday’s actual starting lineup. Which means it can’t be correct, right? The Game Guide lineup is always wrong. But here is it anyway.

The only change I think we might see is Carlos Pavon starting instead of Cobi Jones, with Pavon coming in up front and Landon dropping back. At first I was going to say that I’d be amazed to see Cobi starting, since he’s getting older and started on Wednesday, so Pavon would be fresher. Then I realized Cobi played only 56 minutes on Wednesday, and Pavon played 44-ish, 34-ish (ACK! Yes I DO know how to subtract!!!) and Pavon’s no spring chicken himself. So I guess either makes sense. Right?
