Even with our very bad defense in the 1st half against Gamba, we only gave up 1 goal the entire match. we had chances in the 2nd half to tie the game even possibly win with just a halfway decent finish/touch on the ball.

So,it appears now that Sydney FC was that bad of a team that made Houston look good and the the Galaxy could beat. If De Rosario had been in the game, it may have been different from his attacking style of shots on goal.

J-League founded in 1992, MLS in 1996 and A-League in 2004, looks like that possibly may be the order for the level of league play.

I would like to see the Galaxy play Gamba again with the right players on the field, Ruiz, Donovan etc. I believe it would be a different game, you have some guys who can finish.

The insertion of DeRo would not have made much different. Osaka was relentless.

It was the substitutions. This cup holds about as much weight as the Carolina Challenge.

De Rosario would have opened up the shooting for Houston with his long range blasts, I’m not saying it would have changed the game outcome but without a doubt it would have made some difference.

Sometimes the difference is two players. Minus Bare Osaka would (arguably) only won the match 2-1. Add DeRo for Houston and the attack really opens up, especially up the middle. How many crossing attempts did Houston have compared to attacks up the middle? DeRo is that valuable.

Yeah, I guess having DeRo with his long-range blasts would have slowed down Osaka….since it would take forever for them to retrieve the ball and get it back in play. See, for every wonder strike from DeRo, he sends about 15 into the stands…all the while leaving teammates who are in position to score just standing there watching it sail past them.

The player Houston missed more than anyone is Eddie Robinson. Had he played, they wouldn’t have put 6 goals in.

    Nate,

Judging the quality of any league based on meaningless marketing games played during preseason (not even 3 weeks into training) is a fool’s errand.

Would you predict an NFL team’s season based on August games? Or an MLB team based on March games?

Why would you judge the quality of an entire league based on 4 games played mostly with second-string players trying to make the team?

None of the teams on the field were at all representative of the full-strength teams. I’d put any team led by Becks, Donovan, and Ruiz against any J-League team.

So chill with the league comments until we get into real competitions like SupreLiga and CCL.

Gamba Osaka wasn’t exactly at full strength…
Osaka was without seven key players who were playing for Japanese national teams.
Had they played, they would have put more than 6 goals in.

    Nathanhj,

mls sucks face it. just b/c its still very early in preseason doesnt mean the mls isnt horrible. the mexican league sucks too so i dont see what the superliga has to do with anything. and the ccf? are u serious. if the mls doesnt beat teams from honduras guatemala jamica or where ever the teams are from, the mls should just quit and cease to exist.
