Gullit and the Galaxy Head to Minnesota

By: Laurie | November 11th, 2007

Gullit and the Galaxy.

Say it out loud. Kind of rolls off the tongue, doesn’t it? I think that between Ruud Gullit and CoJones, I’m seeing some seriously amazing limericks coming up in the next year.

Here’s the $64,000 Limerick Question, though, and I’d really like you to give me an answer from your own personal limerick perspective: CoJones. Two syllables or three?

But anyhoo. The Galaxy have apparently headed to Minnesota, where they will be playing the Minnesota Thunder today as part of their post-season David Beckham tour. Beckham has extra incentive to play all out, because he was recalled for England for the upcoming two games against Austria and Croatia. And playing like he and the rest of the gang played in Vancouver on Wednesday won’t go a long way toward restoring him to match fitness. (I have body parts that still haven’t woken up after that game.)

There’s not a lot showing up in the press about this match. We do have the requisite Beckham’s life as a superstar article. And WCCO.com agress with me that the Beckham England call-up could mean more Beckham minutes and energy on the field.

Oh, wait. Here’s something interesting:

The Thunder will field something of a First Division all-star squad, with league MVP Sebastien Le Toux (Seattle Sounders) and defender of the year David Hayes (Atlanta Silverbacks) joining Minnesota mainstays like striker Aaron Paye and defender Kevin Friedland.

Le Toux is playing against the Galaxy? Be afraid, boys. Be very afraid. If he’s on his game, he will give our Galaxy defense fits all night. (LOVE Le Toux!)

It looks like the game is at 5:30 today. I’ll let you know if I find news on audio or video.

  • Thanks for the link, Misareaux. I read the French version with great interest when it came out. Felt like it had been written for me! Almost Galaxy-guy Merlin? Sounder Le Toux? French soccer AND MLS? I'm so there!

I'll probably write more on this next week, so thanks bunches for going to the effort to give me the google translation. :-)
  • They said when Beckham went out to the states, that the MLS wouldn't become a circus built to be his personal playground but that looks to be the case.

Gullit was up and down as a manager in the Premiership and the only reason he's taken on this post is to shine in Beckham's reflected glory. He's such a power crazy idiot though, that he'll more than likely drop him to make a point. Did the same with Shearer at Newcaslte...idiot.

A pretty interesting article I thought, especially the part where they compare the quality of MLS to the lower end of the the French Ligue 1. (I just like Le Toux lots)

Exercise poetic license, darling. Change the pronunciation as it suits the occasion.

    Oooh, it's already started and it's the second half. It's 1-1 , I believe.
  • George
Well, apparently you can listen to the game here, although there's nothing playing now:

So, am I correct in saying that this game will not be on TV?
  • Lee
Don't know if anyone is checking this but you can now
get audio of the game off the Galaxy web page. They
just put it up. Although all I can hear now seems
    to be stadium background noise.
  • Oh, Misareaux, you have no idea how much I'd like to see Le Toux on the Galaxy. One of our main problems this year was that we had no consistent forwards capable of scoring regularly. Le Toux could fix that.

I said the same thing earlier in the year, but I didn't want him to leave the Sounders until they won the USL Championship. Now that they've accomplished that, as far as I'm concerned he can come to the Galaxy!
  • Misareaux
Speaking of Le Toux, he'd be an excellent addition to our non-existent array of forwards. He definitely has the technical ability to make it in MLS with the added benefit of being in pretty good physical condition.

Damn, this would be fun to watch, too bad it's not going to be shown on tv. hopefully some video will turn up!
  • I watched Le Toux in practice the other day and the guy is very impressive. You are correct about that. By the way if you go to the home page of City Pages Balls blog, you will find a more recent report that Paul Demko did.

I also did interviews together with Paul and he has linked to that in his post and I compiled an audio report as the Thunder prepared for the Galaxy in the first ever Copa MN. I tried to give you links but got notified that I spammed you so took them out and rewrote.

    Thanks
