Has Pavon Signed for Galaxy?
By: Laurie | June 16th, 2007
Yesterday I gave Alexi and Frank my blessing for the signing of Honduran international Carlos Pavon. It appears that this is what they were waiting for, because Ives Galarcep says that it’s a done deal.
“The Los Angeles Galaxy’s quest to land the signature of veteran Honduran forward Carlos Pavon has come to a successful end. According a source with knowledge of the situation, Pavon has completed a deal to join the Galaxy…
So how exactly can the Galaxy fit Pavon, Beckham, Donovan and Abel Xavier under their salary cap? It’s called not paying much to the rest of the people on the roster. Only Joe Cannon ($192K), makes more than $142K among the rest of the guys on the roster and Xavier is making a solid but not outrageous $156. Also, we shouldn’t assume Pavon is making big bucks either. It is doubtful that he had big contracts awaiting him elsewhere. There’s a reason he found his way back to Honduras.
That said, adding Pavon and Edson Buddle should help a floundering offense…”
So now we have yet another reason to anxiously await the end of Gold Cup.
(And damn. Now I’ll be up all night trying to think of rhymes for “Pavon.”)
