Highlights from Oceania 0-3 Galaxy
By: Laurie | December 7th, 2008Highlights from the Oceania-Galaxy game in New Zealand, which did not sell out. Goals by Gordo, Brandon McDonald, and the new guy Jirovski.
I couldn’t see the game. Did anyone else? And if so, what did you think of the Landon-less team?

Like the new guy, Kirovsky; Arena positioned the squad as my 17 year old daughter suggested (ranted?) they should be during the one Galaxy match she attended; Kiwis always seem to have more fun than everyone else; Karembeu was only on for 16 min (w/out wife) but seemed as sweet as ever; Davids made some beautiful moves; the announcing was as excruciating as ever; people went bungee jumping.
Can’t really judge team against (unavoidably) disorganized opposition, but I liked what they were trying to do, and its nice for old Becks fans to see that he hasn’t forgotten how to play — although that sentiment may not go over well here in the post 2008 season revoke-his-visa era.
Whoever you follow, best match of the weekend was Barcelona/Valencia — but especially for you Laurie, Henri was exquisite.

I missed the Barca game! I’m going searching for the Henry hat trick highlights to post on the France blog — thanks for the reminder.
Also, there was a rumor recently that Davids might come to MLS? The same rumor was floating around when he was training with the Galaxy, but I assumed at the time he was just hanging out with his BFF Gullit. Now I’m not so sure.
I saw him play a few months back in an exhibition game against the France 1998 WC team, and like you said, some beautiful moves. Not quite the flash of a Beckham, but MLS could do a lot worse.

I can’t believe I spelled Henry’s name wrong!!! Forgive. I think he was really chocked up after the 3rd goal. Sooo happy for him. If I were you I would get a dish just to watch Barca on GolTV this year, and Valencia too. Plus, at the risk of further controversy, I think Ray Hudson is a blast. And its winter, so by the time you tape La Liga and Serie A and watch your own regulars, who really needs to leave the house anyway?
I never knew what happened with Davids, but do add to the elegant passing that he still earns his “pit-bull” nickname. Fierce competitor.

Um, “new guy” Kirovski? He played for us in 2004 & 2005!
Incidentally, he was the first American to play in a Champions League match (and first American to score in the Champions League, and win it).

I thought the Firat Half of the Oceania game… the Galaxy played Fantastic!!! I’d love to see them play like that All the time… the formation was GREAT & Beck really did get more touches on the Ball than he has in any other LAG game… their passing, the Goals were (again) great!… it was definitely a ‘new’ team…. please don’t change a thing Bruce!!! I love Landon but i think he’ll be staying in Germany… and Best Wishes to you Lando.. I too really rated Kirosvsky, he worked So well with Beck too… the rest of the guy’s ..i was really impressed. The second half did slow down some and bothe teams made a lot of changes…. it was fun to watch the girls in the crowd go chasing around the pitch to wherever Becks was taking a Free Kick or corner… i caught that more in the second half as in the first the speed and quality of the game made it so i didn’t take my eyes off the players. Wish beck had made that early Goal…. what a strike!!! but unfortunately it hit the post:<) As one of the commentators for the game )Max Bretos???) said….” any Galaxy fans watching this game tonight will be wishing we could start the new season Tomorrow”. ****Excellent… and fun to watch beck on the Field laughing with Edgar Davids.

Kirovsky is looking like a good addition, if we keep him. Arena seems pretty smart though — and he only has to argue with himself over personnel changes.
Nice strike by Beckham! I like Kirovsky’s goal too.
I miss Donovan already though.

Kirovsky was always good, but not comparable to Donovan. That’s presumably why we traded him. Still, I always thought he had potential. Plus, he had cute kids that used to hang out with his wife at the club during the game.
I think the Davids rumors are just that, but if Donovan does stay in Germany I could actually see it happening.

Kirovski (no y) scored a crazy goal from half-field against the Fire when he was last with us. Unfortunately, can’t find it online anywhere.

New GK?
The LA Galaxy have been in talks with Jamacian keeper Donovan Ricketts. The 31-year old Ricketts has been capped by his home country over 60 times since 1998.
We all know LA is after a keeper and that Galaxy boss Bruce Arena has been in Jamacia scouting players recently. Ricketts should come over cheaply if they do come to a deal. I just wonder if Ricketts is really a good upgrade from Steve Cronin and Josh Wicks. I believe upgrading the defense is actually a little more important to LA than finding a new keeper (I actually think Wicks isn’t all that terrible and would be fine if they had a decent defense in front of him).

Ricketts was released from a Coca Cola League 2 side. If I’m not mistaken, Cronin is better than that.

If Edgar Davids came to the LAG, I would sell every possession I have to buy season tix. I modeled my fancy RX rec-specs after his. I LOVE that guy.
Now I have to quickly go watch the match on the DVR (we’re canceling cable… costs too damned much, hopefully Setanta Broadband will help me keep my Chelski fetish on course and I’ll be relying on MLSLive from now on for my LAG fix (when I’m not at the HDC of course).

Today Ian Walker was relesed from Bolton and is already linked with a move to the U.S. He is a former Tottenham, Leicster, and had a few caps for England maybe he could be a replcaement. He is 37 and hasnt really been linked, just because he dumped his wife for some american stripper, but Who knows.
