How BBC Sports Rates the Galaxy Guys

By: Laurie | July 23rd, 2007

This came out last Wednesday, probably before anything in the World Series of Football (and I still can’t type that name without snorting in disgust) was played. So no telling if British opinions have changed, for better or worse. But the article lists all of our players by a star rating — from five (guess who?) down to one. No criteria are given, and no real reasons for the ratings. Just stars and descriptions of the players.

I think they’re a little hard on Ty Harden and Kevin Harmse, but otherwise I don’t see a lot I disagree with. What do you think? Agree or disagree?

Personal note: I’m out for the week with very limited internet access. And not much access to anything going on in the outside world, actually. I hope to be able to check in periodically and at least see how SuperLiga is going. I’ll try to stick in the occasional short post, and feel free to leave comments or drop me an email.

The only time that I’ve seen him play was this past Saturday but if that was a typical game I think Quavas Kirk deserves another star or two and Landon Donovan’s inability to finish should cost him a star at least.

Donovan is a better player at this point in time than Beckham. Wherever Becks is Lando should be there or better. I’d give them both 4 stars. Cobi Jones was 3.5 stars 10 years ago when he was faster than anything else on the field. Chris Albright is not a four star defender. Everything else looks about right…Ty Harden and Quavas Kirk should be good.

How can Landon be better? We have seen what happens when you put him in a league with stiffer competition. After his total no show at the World Cup, his failure overseas, just his overall lack of ability anywhere besides North America, he should not be higher than Beckham, who was playing really well up until and including his last National Team Game.
