It’s Time for that Fun and Exciting World Series of Soccer Football
By: Laurie | July 16th, 2007Sorry, Bubba. This ain’t your daddy’s World Series. And it ain’t your daddy’s football, neither.
What it is, is… Well, I’m not exactly sure. What are we playing for, again?
Oh, who cares. It’s the World Series of Football! It’s a chance to show off Beckham! Beckham, who is not playing in the first game and may not be playing in the second. But let’s not let that put a damper on things. I’m certain that he and Victoria will be looking quite stylish from the stands, which will make everything worthwhile.
But anyhoo. The World Series of Football. So who are we playing again? I mean besides Chelsea, the team which has caused all of us (or at least me) to adopt the motto: Eyes up!
Interestingly, I’m having a very hard time coming up with much info on this World Series. The teams involved are the Galaxy, obviously, Chelsea FC of England, Suwon Samsung Bluewings of Korea and Tigres UANL of Mexico. All I’m getting from the website at the moment is the fact that Saturday’s games are sold out. I’ll do what I can to dig up a little more info about the other teams and report back before tomorrow.
One of the best things about the World Series of Football and the SuperLiga for the Galaxy, though? They really don’t count for anything. Why is that good? Because this will, with luck (and cross your fingers for quick ankle healing), give Beckham several games to get used to the team, and vice versa, before he’s expected to come in and turn the Galaxy’s league play around.
Again, the first two games are tomorrow, with the Galaxy playing the Tigres UANL and Chelsea playing Suwon Bluewings. It really does sound kind of interesting, even if it is a distraction from league play. When you’re a soccer fan, don’t you find yourself wondering how your team stacks up against teams from other leagues? It may not be pretty, but at least you know. And if they don’t do well… Well, at least we’ll have a starting point for future comparisons.
So, Bubba, feel free to kick back, pop a cold one and see what the World Series of Football is all about.
Me personally, though? I think I’ll be drinking my beer from a bottle. At least for the Chelsea game. I’m just sayin’.
