Kyle Martino’s REALLY Old. Oh, Wait, Never Mind
By: Laurie | April 11th, 2007The headline reads: A CENTURY FOR MARTINO
And I’m thinking, BOY! I was impressed with Cobi playing at thirty-six and Zidane at thirty-four!
But then I went to my handy-dandy online dictionary and was mildly disappointed.
Main Entry: cen·tu·ry
Function: noun
Pronunciation: ’sen(t)-sh(&-)re
Inflected Form(s): plural -ries
Etymology: Latin centuria, irregular from centum hundred
1 : a subdivision of the Roman legion
2 : a group, sequence, or series of 100 like things
3 : a period of 100 years especially of the Christian era or of the preceding period of human history
4 : a race over a hundred units (as yards or miles)
Oh, I get it! They’re talking about a hundred GAMES. Which is STILL impressive.
Kyle Martino was given the start in central midfield on Sunday night alongside Nathan Sturgis and Landon Donovan. This was the 27-year old former Rookie of the Year’s 100th career regular season start, making him the 124th player in MLS history to achieve that feat. Martino, who is in his first full season with the Galaxy, has 10 goals and 20 assists during his six-year MLS career.
Congratulations, Kyle!
(P.S. Writing with this degree of ditziness is actually more of a challenge than writing intelligently. Just so you know.)
(P.P.S. I had to choose between a photo of Kyle in a Galaxy uniform and photos of Kyle that I liked. I went for Galaxy. But if you’re a Martino fan, be sure to stop by the Google.com Images search for Kyle pictures. There are some fun ones there.
