LA Galaxy @ RBNY. Leave Comments if You’re Watching

The official Galaxy blog is listing this lineup:

————–Buddle—–Ruiz—————

Donovan—————————–Beckham

————-Vagenas—–Pires————–

Jazic——Vanney———Roberts——–Klein

——————-Cronin———————
Subs: Wicks, Dominguez, Franchino, Randolph, Tudela, Allen and Gordon.

We all knew Ruiz was going to start, right? And the new boy, Dominguez, is on the bench. I’m thinking this back line looks…old? (Except for Troy Roberts, of course.) I’d expect to see Dominguez subbed in forwhoever’s playing the worst at the half, wouldn’t you?

Should be a great game. I’m not expecting nine goals this time, but… I could be wrong. After all, we DO have the best offense and worst defense in the league. Let’s just hope that the majority of those goals are for our team.

Hard to know who to believe here. But one things sticks out to me. Xavier says Gullit takes credit when they win and blames the players when they lose. I remember a game in which Gordon played horribly and stopped to tie his show. After the game, Gullit still publicly said he plays with passion and he thinks Gordon does well. I have heard him criticize the level of play, but never an individual player.

Would be a cool signing if true. I'd still like to see a playmaking midfielder. But that seems unlikely at this point.
  • Sideline Views says the Galaxy is not officially commenting on this one, which means it's probably a done deal, right?
  • Glen
From the sound of that article it's a done deal, but who knows for sure. Hope it's true, would be interesting to see how it works out with another player who can actually hold the ball center midfield.

    check it out
a certain Nolberto Solano from Newcastle
  • Glen
Great finish for Donovan. I actually missed the last few minutes of the game so I missed the goal but it was great to see we got out of there with a point.
  • Justin
Pete was playing more of a CAM position where Pires was playing the DM position. The good thing about Pires is that he is only 23 and should get better the thing with Pete is prolly not going to get better. If we bring in another player in this transfer window I think Vanney will be gone.

Amazing result. Just watched Donovan's late goal again. Beautiful cross; very lucky bounce. Our defense is weak. Hopefully Dominguez will shore it up. But I am more and more convinced that our real problem is central midfield. Pires just does not cut it and Vagenas never did.

Agree Mark. Nice to see how far both teams have come since the beginning of the season in terms of their ability to move the ball around. It wasn't the Galaxy's best game but there was certainly a good deal more "football" -- as Gullit describes aiming for -- played on the ground than looked possible early in the season, which is wonderful to see.

Note: Heat and air quality were ugly, but seemingly more so for me than the players! A tough lot and credit to them for shaking that off!

what a game!!! but what a build up at the end!!! so close. we just needed more accuracy on the rebound to steal 3 points
  • Lee
Damn, I thought we just got it. That would have been
    miraculous.

We've got to start getting some wins soon though our
we'll be outside the playoffs looking in.
  • oh my lord, I wanted the win, but I'll take the draw.
  • I. Can.'t Believe. That. Went. In.
  • Glen
Donovan hasn't been as sharp tonight
  • Glen
no power on the shot from pete
  • Glen
NY is making some good passes and controlling play right now
  • Glen
buddle, that was not a shot- had time to settle it
  • Glen
    dodged a bullet there
  • Glen
come on we need that 1 point at least
  • Glen
going to a back three, throw everyone forward for the last 10
  • Glen
    damn, almost for Ruiz
  • Gordon for Vanney. Whoa. Because defense is SO overrated.
  • AARRGGHH!! Ruiz, so close!
  • TJ
If Gullit wants to play this way then sub Pires out - he is a waste of space out there anyway and bring on Randolph and put him in the right back position and put Klein in the middle and have him switch off with Beckham!
  • TJ, I'm hoping that with a speedier central defender we'll have enough power in back to let Klein go forward as much as he likes to. I'm looking forward to seeing Dominguez.
  • TJ
Gullit needs to pull his head out of his ass and make Klein stay back - NY is killing the Galaxy on that left side every time Klein makes a run forward NY comes back on that side - LA defense cannot handle this - hence the 2nd goal - hell it should be 3 - 1 NY at this time!
  • David
That's why Angel makes the big bucks. Nice goal.
  • That. Sucked.
  • David
This announcer is killing me. It's Ja-zic. Not jaw-zic or yah-zic. And apparently our coach is now Yullit.
  • Nice save by Cronin!!
  • David
Becks isn't having the best game today either.
  • David, I was also wondering where Landon's disappeared to today.
  • Cronin's looking a lot more self-confident today that he has at times in the past.
  • Lee
Somebody put Rojas on the Christmas card list.
  • David
Isn't Donovan much better as a striker?
  • Heehee. All of David Beckham's touches on video. That is so...so...MLS.
  • Lee
We got the better of play overall in the first
half but we've got to get the result tonight.
  • Glen
    Roberts, what a save!
  • Troy Roberts is having a good game, isn't he?
  • Glen
I can't wait too see Dominguez out there and see what happens
  • Glen
Dominguez should be able to pick up x-mans air ability
  • Glen
damn, TVU is messing up for me so I'm missing some of the play
  • I do worry that we're going to miss Xavier in the air.
  • At least we're starting to connect passes and move the ball again. The start of the game kind of sucked.
  • Glen
    CRAP! all I can say
  • Crap. Goal NY. Maybe we will see 5-4 today. Let's just hope we're the 5.
  • That goal was SOOOOOO pretty! Beautiful work by Buddle (is he just amazing this year or what?) and a beautiful finish by Ruiz. I'm so happy to see him score at last.

(And I haven't seen him flop once yet. Yea, Carlos!)
  • Glen
great goal for ruiz and assist from buddle
  • Lee
That was a damn nice play by Edson. 1-nil.
  • Tucker
    WELCOME BACK RUIZ GOALLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLL!!!!

  • Tucker
Now were starting to connect and get some chances. and Ruiz is looking pretty good
  • Glen
damn, what a nice setup from donovan. would have been great to see ruiz get that goal
  • Glen
nice deflection from Cronin on angel's shot
  • Lee
Nice save by Steve. We're covering the counter a little
    better so far.
  • Glen
the last few runs have looked much better
  • Lee
Nope, they're playing it pretty tight so far.
  • Glen
some sloppy passes going on from the Galaxy
  • Glen
surprised to see Javic back so soon, so far there's not any flow from us yet
  • Glen
come on a yellow, lets just hope the ref doesn't show to much crap
  • Glen
Dominguez will see some time in the 2nd half I'm sure. Come on Buddle/Ruiz
  • Lee
Yeah, I expect to see Dominguez at the half also.

If the rumors are true and we're trying to trade
Ruiz to NY, this is a good way to let them see
    him.

The key is going to be the play of Pete and Pires
    in the midfield.
