LA Galaxy @ RBNY. Leave Comments if You’re Watching
By: Laurie | July 19th, 2008The official Galaxy blog is listing this lineup:
————–Buddle—–Ruiz—————
Donovan—————————–Beckham
————-Vagenas—–Pires————–
Jazic——Vanney———Roberts——–Klein
——————-Cronin———————
Subs: Wicks, Dominguez, Franchino, Randolph, Tudela, Allen and Gordon.
We all knew Ruiz was going to start, right? And the new boy, Dominguez, is on the bench. I’m thinking this back line looks…old? (Except for Troy Roberts, of course.) I’d expect to see Dominguez subbed in forwhoever’s playing the worst at the half, wouldn’t you?
Should be a great game. I’m not expecting nine goals this time, but… I could be wrong. After all, we DO have the best offense and worst defense in the league. Let’s just hope that the majority of those goals are for our team.

I just got back from the game, very entertaining and a great goal at the death!

Agree Mark. Nice to see how far both teams have come since the beginning of the season in terms of their ability to move the ball around. It wasn’t the Galaxy’s best game but there was certainly a good deal more “football” — as Gullit describes aiming for — played on the ground than looked possible early in the season, which is wonderful to see.
Note: Heat and air quality were ugly, but seemingly more so for me than the players! A tough lot and credit to them for shaking that off!

Amazing result. Just watched Donovan’s late goal again. Beautiful cross; very lucky bounce. Our defense is weak. Hopefully Dominguez will shore it up. But I am more and more convinced that our real problem is central midfield. Pires just does not cut it and Vagenas never did.

Pete was playing more of a CAM position where Pires was playing the DM position. The good thing about Pires is that he is only 23 and should get better the thing with Pete is prolly not going to get better. If we bring in another player in this transfer window I think Vanney will be gone.

Great finish for Donovan. I actually missed the last few minutes of the game so I missed the goal but it was great to see we got out of there with a point.

From the sound of that article it’s a done deal, but who knows for sure. Hope it’s true, would be interesting to see how it works out with another player who can actually hold the ball center midfield.

Sideline Views says the Galaxy is not officially commenting on this one, which means it’s probably a done deal, right?

Would be a cool signing if true. I’d still like to see a playmaking midfielder. But that seems unlikely at this point.

Hard to know who to believe here. But one things sticks out to me. Xavier says Gullit takes credit when they win and blames the players when they lose. I remember a game in which Gordon played horribly and stopped to tie his show. After the game, Gullit still publicly said he plays with passion and he thinks Gordon does well. I have heard him criticize the level of play, but never an individual player.
