Landon and Cobi-Wan to the All-Stars
By: Laurie | July 11th, 2007It’s too painful to write about last night’s US Open Cup game. (Plus I was only able to listen to the second half, so I still don’t have a good idea what happened.)
So, instead, I thought I’d share some Good news! Cheery, happy news! News that will make us completely forget that the world is on our doorstep, waiting to bow down and worship our magnificence, while we’re losing to a freakin’ USL2 team.
But anyhoo. The point of this post: Landon Donovan and Cobi Jones are going to the All-Stars. Woohoo! Yeah, I know they weren’t selected in the MLS First XI last week. But thanks be to the coach and the Commissioner, they’re still going. Landon was one of five chosen by NE Revs coach Steve Nicol, and Cobi was one of two chosen by Commissioner Don Garber.
The other Commissioner pick was the also-retiring Eddie Pope, and the other coach picks were Brian Ching (whom I will always think of as “Chingy,” rhymes with “thingy” — thanks so much to whoever put that into my head), Ronnie O’Brien, Kevin Hartman and Pablo Mastroeni.
And in a sign that the MLS does occasionally answer to something other than the almighty dollar, he-who-must-not-be-named was…well…not named. So he won’t be playing his first-ever MLS game as an All Star.
Nothing against Bec..er…you know who, but this is the right choice. For once. Yea, MLS.
