Landon’s All Over the Blogosphere for Saying…

By: Laurie | April 15th, 2008

I’m currently mentally working on a game review. For what it’s worth. But for now:

Landon Donovan apparently did an interview with Telefutura after the game. I’ll let Soccer y Futbol tell you about it:

“Some may not like it, but we are the giants of MLS.”

But Donovan quickly catches himself

“Then again, we have missed the playoffs two years in a row.”

Because yeah. People aren’t laughing at our team nearly enough yet.

Just wait till Gullit or Beckham start calling people out. Then the fun really starts.

It’s nothing compared to the Kobe incident(s) of summer 2007.

    Haa Good for you LANDO!
I admire his cockiness, maybe he should have said itafter a 3-2 loss but doesn’t neglect the fact that its true.
Whether people like it or not, Galaxy are the Giants of MLS. Its absurd to that people still judge us based on our last 2 yrs performances.
Our history doesnt lie, our attendance doesnt lie and our Popularity doesnt lie. Arsenal hasn’t won crap in a while, does that mean they are not giants?
We are the Yankees/Lakers of the MLS . Hate it or Love it, its the truth. People are just going to have to deal with it.

I’m just curious about this historical Yankees/Lakers argument … in the history of the league, LA has two MLS Cups (to DC’s four) and two Supporters Shields (again, four for DC). I’m not a United fan … in fact, not a fan of any team that calls themselves United. Ever. But, the history is on DC’s side as the #1 heavyweight in the league.

Well i wasn’t referring to hardware, and if you noticed, i said Lakers, Celtics have the most Titles in the NBA. But when it comes down to popularity, Lakers and yankees are known all Over the world. They’re the face of their perspective leagues. As is and has been our Galaxy.

I’ll grant you that - the international fanbase is by far the largest.

Yep, well done, Landon. Galaxy are THE club that everybody is gunning for. Always have been, always will be. They better get their laughs in now…because the Galaxy will definitely have the last laugh.

Jesus F*cking C. Now we have to find a gag big enough to cover both Lalas and Donovan. Donovan’s has been pretty frank about the state of the team lately, but that remark requires HUGE asterisks — like maybe he meant in terms of the attention they’re getting. But you can’t say stuff like that until you have enough players that look like they could perform or you are playing *beautiful* ball and just not making it: see *Arsenal, galactico era Real Madrid, Brazil on occasion…the list is pretty long and the Galaxy is distinctly NOT on it at the moment.

*I’m a Liverpool fan and, badly as Arsenals been doing lately, I was still awestruck by long stretches of their play over the last two weeks. It would have been a pleasure to watch were it not against my team, and even then it made the games great.

You know what this tells me, Landon is full of confidence. So that is a great sign. I think Landon is the greatest and I also believe we kind of are the big boys in the MLS not in the fact that we win them all but everyone hates us. lol

What constitutes the GIANTS of the MLS?

Horrific management? Prima donnas who don’t perform up to expectations?

Not having a defense? Having one mega world superstar and one national superstar and little else? A title a few years back after a good playoff run with a subpar team?

If the loudness of ridiculing guffaws from the rest of the league make the Gals “Giants”, then so be it. Whew! Thank God we don’t have that absurd label, sighs a relieved rest of the league.

I guess you folks need your team to be something… but if you want winners, I’d support that other LA team…
