Landon’s Snap Header
By: jen | January 19th, 2009Another goal for Landon Donovan in Bayern Munich’s 2-0 win in a friendly against Kaiserslautern. And a nice one at that! “Here little defender, I’m going to make a run far post. See? See? Follow along now . . . Psych! I’m near post snapping in a header and you are on your heels!” Deceptively quick Donovan strikes again.

Len, did you watch the game? I did, and Landon was super. He had a classy left-footed cross from the end line to Luca Toni…who proceeded to flub it. But Luca acknolwedged Landon’s cross with a hand-clap. Landon is fitting in very well with his teammates.
Funny, I’ve been reading some German messageboards….and the fans are starting to fall in love with LD.

I didn’t get to watch the game — I had an appointment at the time.
But I heard about that cross! And he just looks sooo good. I hope that he can stay. If MLS doesn’t let him out of his contract (assuming Bayern are willing to pay for him) I’ll be one supremely pissed fan.Posted from

Beautiful goal, hope it works out for him. Nicole it’s cool to hear that the German fans are liking him.

two of the defenders- Henry “Leo” Bautista and Tony Sanneh (remember him, 37 years old now) were invited as trialists. Bautista plays for a team in Venezuela’s 1st division, could be interesting. He looks like he has some speed.

I saw Donovan’s next two for Bayern also, it’s great to see him playing so well there.
I get tired of coming to Galaxy related sites because I find the Beckham-trashing a bit extreme. But I liked seeing that he’s still encouraging Donovan — at Bayern:

Well there are a lot of Beckham trash talking but do you blame people? He is somewhere else playing when he should be here getting in sync with our team not AC Milan. Then he talks the best player on our team into going overseas. (Landon is my fav. and I hope he stays in BM) I hope Becks stays in AC we should sell them both and move on, that is how I feel. I love all 4 rookies we got in the draft and hope they all stay on the squad and moving Becks and LD would open up two spots. Izzy and Tristan can take over for LD. (they are no where near as good but they are also only 18 yrs old)

Hi Justin. I’ve been around sports for a long time so I do understand the trash talk, although I’ve never been a proponent myself. And I thought that Beckham was almost unrecognizable for the second half of last season, so I understand the shit any player would get for that.
I also think Galaxy would be better served selling Beckham, buying some exciting younger players, and paying the low-wage end of the squad a decent salary (I strongly believe that the distraction of trying to get along on the starting salaries has an impact on players, plus its immoral).
I just don’t see Beckham as quite the villain others do. I also think appreciate it when a player gets a chance to play at their best. I’m happy to see Donovan giving Europe a try again, and I felt bad that Twellman didn’t get the chance when it was offered. Unless they are particularly distasteful people, I like to see players do well(as long as its not against my team
).I wish Beckham could stay in Milan, where his game is certainly improving, but its likely that he will come back to LA to make things right after last season. But I can’t fault him for enjoying who he’s sharing a pitch with at the moment — any player would. And yes I know he could have gone to Milan instead of Galaxy to begin with and saved fans, club and league the hub-bub. But even the filthy rich can’t always predict exactly how things will work out.
Call me a player sympathizer. You might have noticed how strongly I defended the young Galaxy players — who I thought put in a great effort — this season.

Yeah I see where you are coming from and I am a Beckham fan I just do not see him doing any good for our team on the pitch. 10 assist Klein will have that this season playing RM. (I hope lol) I just want us to move on past these bad 3 years and build a team of hungry players and I think we are moving in the right direction. I am really anxious to see who makes the final 24 players, I mean we have 33 players invited to camp and I saw on the LAG blog they got another GK there now so I think its up to 34.

Interesting quote from LD on Si.com today. Given how well he’s playing, and this quote, seems to me all that is left is to begin the negotiations.
“There’s no date,” Donovan said. “If I go back to the Galaxy, we have our first game March 21, so I’d have to return at least one week earlier. But that would be sad. I want to make it here. It is my dream. I want stay here a few years.”

One of the best things about discovering the Galaxy through Beckham was becoming a Chris Klein fan!!! (Along with watching how tough some of those “the kids,” being paid 15 cents an hour, were even when being torn apart in the press.)

On the topic of Chris Klein, Goal.com is asking for submissions of questions to ask him in an interview.

Wow some good news today Beckham Scores his first goal and it seems we are lining up a bid for Michael Owen.

I think Beckham will end up staying in Milan now. He looks like he’s really enjoying his football now. As far as Owen goes, there’s no chance. One phone call from his old pal Dave in Milan and that’s done. Sorry to be so negative.

Yeah, there is now official news out that AC Milan is going to offer the MLS and $$$$$ for none other than Mr. Becks so lets hope and pray that they take the green and be done with it, because if they dont he will leave after this season anyways and we will not get any money at all. I think we will be just fine with out them both I mean we were almost the worst team in the league so….
