Lifetime Ban No More!

By: jen | July 28th, 2009

It’s a good day to be an angry, drunken, easily-baited Galaxy fan.

Katie Pandolfo, the Home Depot Center’s general manager, said the Galaxy asked the stadium complex’s management to reconsider the ban, noting Beckham shared responsibility for the fan’s actions.

So can we get back to playing soccer now? Okay, good.

The right decision. Leaving the ban in place was a huge black eye for the team that would have continued to draw negative attention to Beckham through the season.

With this and the fine (however minuscule), MLS and the Galaxy have sent the right message.

(I think. Let’s do a drunken-fan-on-the-field count at the end of the season and see how it’s worked out.)

What was the Galaxy fan base’s reaction to Golden Baws calling them a disgrace?

    Hi Jen,

I run a football blog over here in the UK and am planning to write an article about LA Galaxy and Mr Beckham from the point of view of a Galaxy fan.

At the moment all we see on the TV over here is footage of him arguing with various people in the crowd and I wanted to know whether most fans are still behind him or if they’re sick of the Beckham circus. If you’d up be for doing a brief email-based interview then let me know and we’ll sort something out.

I appreciate that you might be fed up of talking about Mr B by now though!

    Thanks,

    John

As soon as the ban went down, I thought the best course of actions for Becks would be to try and “lobby” to get the ban lifted. Even if he didn’t want it to happen, at least it looks like he’s trying to smooth things over.

If the Galaxy win against Seattle in 2 weeks (which I think they will), the boos for Becks will be long gone.

    Smart move by Beckham.

Sure John. Send me an email at lagalaxy(at)theoffside(dot)com. My co-blogger, Nathan, will have some good insights as well. If you’d like, we can also poll/ask the fans here at this sight for their perspectives as well.

He even asked for the ban to be lifted. And you guys are still saying he’s a bad, selfish, greedy man?

And to John..most fans are okay with him. It’s just a small portion of fans who’re still unsatisfied. How much hate still there be for him..I don’t know, but it’s still there. If Mr B continues playing well and LAG didn’t lose their next games, and after this ban has been lifted and they are still hating him and keep booing him..I’d just say their doing it just for the sake of doing it and to get attention to themselves..not for the team at all. They are what we call, the mindless idiots’ fans.

Like Cobi Jones said, “when the fans booing him, they’re booing the whole team..I don’t like it at all..and that’s how I feel.” Peace out.

I am a huge Galaxy fan, but for the record I never taught bringing Beckham over was a good idea. I kinda expected something like this to happen. When people said he would bring credibility to MLS I was kinda skeptical. My feelings were that if he did well, he would want to give Europe another shot and if he did bad, well then the MLS was simply a place for retired greats to come to pasture. Neither which paints a good picture for MLS. With that said, I am really disappointed in the way things turned out. I am not surprised, but I am disappointed. Would I boo Beckham at a game? No, cuz he still wears the jersey I love. But will I be glad when he is gone? HECK YES!!!!

Hey Laurie, no worries! The Galaxy will summon all of their championship experience (I think we have 2? Seattle has… ?). When you add that to our world-class soccer-specific stadium with REAL grass (not one of those converted NFL stadiums – YUCK!), it turns into a winning combination!

    Early prediction: LA 3 – Sounders 2.

Hello fans, Becks checking in. Just got my new Aston Martin today, luvvly leavur. We English do some things really well: car interiors are one of them. Whipping in balls to the back post is another….hahahahahahaha. Anyways big news to share: Landycakes thinks he’s patched things up with old Goldenballs here after he took me to his favourite spa this AM.

    http://www.thegendarmerie.com/

Wow, what a friendly bunch of guys! Some were even dressed up as French policemen. Landy went for the colonic irrigation while I had the full body sea-weed wrap. Thanks Raul, very soft hands. Anyhoo, Landon says he likes to flush all the pollutants out of his body before a big game…and they don’t come much bigger than Barca vs FC Gluttony this Saturday night. Well actually they don’t come much bigger for Landy, who really loves “exhibition” games against big clubs he’ll never get to play against competitively. Hahahahahahaha.

During his anal-bleaching touch up, Landy confessed of being a bit nervous about the upcoming Mexico/USA World Cup clash at the Azteca. The Mexicans don’t like him because he took a wee on their field or something a few years back. Anyhoo, they are mean to him, these Mexicans and try to kick him early, so he’ll whuss out of the game. Basically following the Czech plan at 2006 World Cup. C’mon Mexico, I want him up in the air in the first 30 seconds! Leaving nothing to chance, Piedad my house-maid, is relaying messages to Mexico gaffer, Javier Aguirre, on how best to wind-up Landycakes. For example, he’s become obsessed with male pattern baldness, something The Becks has never had to worry about: my hair is still as thick as an Arabian merkin and God knows I’ve given it some abuse over the years. Just like Sheva….hahahahahaha. Anyways I think Blanco will be giving him a Hair Club for Men brochure when they swap pennants at kick-off. Oh and Maxwell, my PA, is a whiz with Photoshop – so the Mexican squad now have pics of Biana Kajlich pleasuring a burro that just happens to be wearing an El Tri uniform. Go Mexico!

I know a lot of you have been asking about my run-in with that fan the other week. What a laugh. I think the phrase, “I would have punked his bitch ass” is best used to describe what would have happened if Pie-Boy had made it over the fence. “Riot Squad”, that’s what you hard-core Gluttony fans call yourselves? I’ve seen more threatening crews in the check-out line at Toy ‘R Us. Look lads, when you’ve stepped on Diego Simone’s package and lived to tell the tale, a bunch of Venice-beach graphic designers who bought a job-lot of scarves and can chant “Who Are Ya?”, does not make The Becks quake.

Wait a mo. Maxwell’s just texted me. Looks like if I don’t get home soon “Dinner will be in the dog”. Doesn’t this dufus know that Posh hardly eats a thing! Hahahahhahahha. Ciao for now, as we like to say in Milano.

Landon was on KROQ this morning. I missed half of it, but they do have a podcast, which I think you can probably get form their website. The part I heard was a good interview.

Okay, “Becks” we get it. You don’t like Donovan, the Galaxy, or the MLS. So go away. Why do you even bother coming here if you feel that way? Go back home and watch the EPL to your hearts content. I am so tired of reading posts from soccer snobs. We get it, European soccer is “better”. I don’t care! MLS needs fans, as well as players, for it to grow. If you don’t like it, don’t watch it. I live in LA can go to the Galaxy games occasionally, and watch them on TV. They are “my” team. If you want to insult them and their fans, go somewhere else. This is a fan blog. You are obviously not a fan, so shut up! Why do you care if they actually have fans? Why don’t you go to the fan blog of the teams you actually like and post something positive!
