Mathis is on His Way to Greece
By: Laurie | January 11th, 2008Seriously, who was that masked man? Did he really wear a Galaxy jersey for a couple of games halfway across the world, or was that a figment of our collective imaginations?
Whatever. He’s apparently gone now.
Here’s the paragraph from the Greek website:
Η ΠΑΕ Διεθνής Ένωσις Εργοτέλης ανακοινώνει την απόκτηση του Αμερικανού ΔΙΕΘΝΗ μεσοεπιθετικού ποδοσφαιριστή CLINT MATHIS για ένα χρόνο.
Anybody want to translate? Well, not the “CLINT MATHIS” part. That part I figured out all on my own.
Apparently our Clint is headed out the door, journeying to Greece after arriving less than two months ago.
According to reports out of Greece, Mathis has signed a deal with Greek club Ergotelis, which is currently in last place in the 16-team Greek league. Sources told SBI in December that Mathis was a good bet to move to Europe and his good form on the Los Angeles Galaxy’s tour of Australia and New Zealand may have served to precipitate a deal. The Galaxy acquired Mathis from the Red Bulls for a third-round draft pick. Sources within MLS have yet to confirm Mathis’ departure but the Ergotelis website shows Mathis signing.
Buh-bye Cletus! Send us a postcard, the way you would to any other acquaintance you superficially dated while looking to trade up. You know we’d do the same.
(Thanks to Dave and Ronny for the news.)

I was hoping he would stay, but whatever. On another note, check out this LA Times poll: If you could get rid of one LA sports team forever which would it be?
The voting is on round 2. Guess who got eliminated in the first round…that’s right Sh!tvas.

Shoot — with all the sports teams bailing from the San Francisco Bay Area to Silicon Valley, I’d be freaking stoked if Oakland or SF took ChivasUSA off LA’s hands.
