Meet Julie, Your New Miss LA Galaxy
By: Laurie | October 17th, 2007
I used to think that it was one of the best things in the world for girls to aspire to be really good at sports. Then I watched the vicious, vindictive, catty behavior of the US Women’s National Team. Now I’m thinking that beauty pageants like Miss LA Galaxy might not be so bad.
I’m serious. Kind of.
I was looking at the finalists the other day and saw some talented and intelligent young women. And most of them even seemed to have their original breasts. In California, no less! (Click on the individual photos to go bigger than the head shots.) And only a couple listed Beckham as their favorite player. This gives me hope for the future of the world.
Or something like that
(Not that Beckham’s not wonderful and all. But he can be a favorite Galaxy player next year, when he’s spent the season actually on the field.)
And so, ladies and gentlemen, meet your new Miss LA Galaxy, 2008, Julie. I never thought I’d say something like this, but based purely on her qualifications, she seems to be a better role model for young girls than Abby Wambach or Kristine Lilly. (And since she actually played soccer through high school, we’ll forgive her for the Beckham thing and assume she’s a longtime fan rather than a bandwagon jumper.)
Oh, and guys? According to the Galaxy website, “She was also a 2005 Miss Illinois USA pageant Finalist and “Best in Bikini” award winner, as well a Miss Hawaiian Tropic Finalist for St. Louis.”
Just so you know.
Congratulations, Julie!
