Meet Julie, Your New Miss LA Galaxy

By: Laurie | October 17th, 2007

miss-la-galaxy-2008.jpgI used to think that it was one of the best things in the world for girls to aspire to be really good at sports. Then I watched the vicious, vindictive, catty behavior of the US Women’s National Team. Now I’m thinking that beauty pageants like Miss LA Galaxy might not be so bad.

I’m serious. Kind of.

I was looking at the finalists the other day and saw some talented and intelligent young women. And most of them even seemed to have their original breasts. In California, no less! (Click on the individual photos to go bigger than the head shots.) And only a couple listed Beckham as their favorite player. This gives me hope for the future of the world.

Or something like that

(Not that Beckham’s not wonderful and all. But he can be a favorite Galaxy player next year, when he’s spent the season actually on the field.)

And so, ladies and gentlemen, meet your new Miss LA Galaxy, 2008, Julie. I never thought I’d say something like this, but based purely on her qualifications, she seems to be a better role model for young girls than Abby Wambach or Kristine Lilly. (And since she actually played soccer through high school, we’ll forgive her for the Beckham thing and assume she’s a longtime fan rather than a bandwagon jumper.)

Oh, and guys? According to the Galaxy website, “She was also a 2005 Miss Illinois USA pageant Finalist and “Best in Bikini” award winner, as well a Miss Hawaiian Tropic Finalist for St. Louis.”

Just so you know.

Congratulations, Julie!

  • Jack, you're showing up on my screen with a US flag. Does it not show on yours?

I still wanna know how you get the little flag tag thingy to show up on the posted from.... Laurie who do we ask about that?

ITA on the tiara... sheesh. Besides not being able to comprehend this sort of Miss whatever kind of thing (I still say the Rose Court is all about the evolutionary hold-over practice of presenting the local virgins to be oggled before fertility rites began at the local megaliths), Julie's bio reads like overkill and she's not a local. Mrs. Jack was downright pissed Sylvia didn't win... I suspect it has to do with Sylvia being the Cobi Jones fan, which always wins Mrs. Jack's heart, ah hell, mine too---come on, Cobi, one more season, then you can do the TV gig.

I love the press release details of what she won: makeup, sash, a spa day, money.... not even a season ticket, a Beckham jersey or a ball? What about a day with Posh? Bummer. Our 10 year old thought it was great Julie played futbol but then got all competitive about it, "Daddy, she only played JV and she didn't play Club. She's not all that." But she then added, "But she is pretty, like a princess with a statue of liberty crown." I still don't get it, but yeah the tiara... oy vey, that was the best shot they had? Must have been the assistant's day off.
  • I don't think anybody could look good in that tiara. As Ian says, it's worthy of the pope.
  • I wanted Audrey to win with Silvia being my runner-up, but I Julie will do. That picture makes her look funny though. There's gotta be better than that.
  • Ian
    Wow. Nice Pope tiara.
