Beckham is to the MLS (or the Galaxy) as a free toaster is to a new checking account at the bank. It’s nice to have, but it’s not the reason you go.

In my opinion the MLS (and the USMNT) has a lot of great players. Beckham is akin to the little blinking lights on the front of your stereo. They capture your attention but they don’t need to be there to get it to work.
