Now SI.com is Talking About Zidane to Galaxy!
By: Laurie | April 16th, 2007
Now the Zidane-to-Galaxy rumor is in SI.com! Credible, right?
Okay, so fine, they’re only quoting VitalFootball, which got its news from all of the sources I’ve already mentioned. And they’re only putting it in their “Truth and Rumors” section. But still! SI! Credibility, right?
Hey, don’t begrudge me these last few hours of dreams, okay?
And for those of you who don’t think the old guy’s still got it, check out this (somewhat melodramatic yet still awesome) video of clips from last summer’s France-Brazil World Cup game. As I’ve mentioned, when you’re dealing with older players… Well, it’s like that country song. He may not be as good as he once was, but he’s as good once as he ever was. (And anybody who can find me a DVD source for that France-Brazil game will earn my undying love forever. I was too nervous to enjoy it as it was happening.)
(And as I was just mentioning to Diane in the comments, it’s posts like this one and the “let’s help Posh’s appetite” one that guarantee I will NEVER give up my anonymity in writing this blog. I’m getting visions of parents in my real life snatching up their small children as I approach.)

Don’t worry Laurie, I’m sure your parents are wise enough to agree with your appreciation of years of experience and practice :). It’s POSSIBLE that Mr. Zidane is not as good as he once was–I don’t really believe it and again I am NOT on Laurie’s payroll–but that man is one fine footballer and I don’t think you can ever lose that touch. So as long as he’s walking and talking he can stand and poach for all I care–although not for another ten years, for now I think we can still expect the whole show. Should there be a whole show…sigh…

laurie, dvds of the wc 06 Brazil-France match are often sold on ebay. I have different copies of it. There may not be any copies available right now but ebay can contact you when the item you’re looking for shows up.

He will not go to the Galaxy. Look at the way MLS has been distributing the money making names. MLS keeps big names seperate to generate ticket sales for as many teams as possible. For example: Chivas USA, Blanco to the Fire, Beckham to the Galaxy. Blanco on Chivas wouldn’t make financial sense b/c the Latin American crowd across the country would only buy tickets to Chivas games instead of Chivas and Fire games. It’s business, gentlemen. Zidane will not go to the Galaxy as long as Beckham is there. And, no Landon is not a big name. He has shown how ineffective and unambitious he is, nobody wants to see the squandered talent we were all banking on.

Jdj, It doesn’t make sense. It’s never made sense. I keep dismissing it (with much regret, yes) for all of the reasons you site, and yet it keeps coming back, each time a teensy bit more credible. Now Fox Soccer News is saying it’s “a done deal.” (And Luis Bueno is now saying Fox Soccer is a “steaming pile.” Or something like that.) But as long as anyone is still reporting the possibility, the dream lives.
Sandra! Nathan! (And also Tom, who e-mailed me with another possibility!) This is my heart, exploding with love over all of you! I WILL see this game again! And this time I’ll be able to WATCH it. (I was actually in the shower for the Henry goal because it was too tense and I couldn’t stay in the room. I’ve never quite forgiven myself for my disloyalty.)

Well Laurie, imagine how it was for me — being a fan of both teams, fighting with myself throughout the match — I couldn’t keep my eyes off the screen, tho.
