Now the Rumor is FIGO to Galaxy?
By: Laurie | June 7th, 2007
Luis Figo. The Portuguese winger/legend who may or may not have left Inter Milan. Now coming to a Galaxy near you.
Or not. Whatever.
MSN.com in the UK is quoting Alexi Lalas on the topic of bringing Figo to the Galaxy.
“We know Figo is on the market right now and we’re observing,” Lalas said. “It’s a possibility, though we know Figo interests many clubs around the world. If he is interested in playing in the United States then without a doubt we have a great chance of signing him.”
Luis Figo. Hmmm… Okay, so he’s not my Galactico of choice (See: Zidane, Zinedine), but he’s not chopped liver, either. And he meets all the Galaxy criteria of 1) European 2) Over thirty and 3) In a transitional phase of his career. (There was recently some breached contract thing with Saudi Arabia, which Martha has covered extensively on the Italy Offside page.)
And I’m hoping that Martha will see this and forward me one of her best hot Figo photos to include here, because my personal collection begins and ends with Zidane.
UPDATE: Oh, wait, never mind. I found one that BOTH Martha and I can enjoy.

HA! I do appreciate the photo, Laurie, and appreciate your consideration in choosing in.
Apart what utter bullshit I think this is (Lalas is like a infant in his desperate desire to get his name in the paper), I have a serious question: Aren’t Landon and Becks both DPs? So … what would they pay Figo with? Kindness?

Wouldn’t he work for hugs and kisses? Of course he would.
When the Zidane-to-Galaxy rumors were flying, the only even slightly credible possibility I saw was that AEG-owned Houston would trade their DP slot to LA. For what I have no idea. And it would have worked only if Zidane played for just one year, because next year we’ll have a hard time even keeping Landon. So I’m assuming it would be the same for Figo.
Dreams and deluded ravings, I think. But it gave me the opportunity to post the picture.
