Oh Yeah, the Galaxy Plays the Houston Dynamo Sunday

By: jen | June 27th, 2009

You know, after that other game I heard about. Something about Brazil being in a final . . .

Our Galaxy hosts the Houston Dynamo on Sunday — game time 7pm, shown on ESPN2 and Deportes.

The Dynamo sits atop the Western standings with 28 points, and whoops every Eastern team on points as well.

The Galaxy are in a bit of a slump, having lost their last two matches. They are clearly missing Landon Donovan’s presence.

But don’t assume the game is lost just yet. Houston is missing two of their top starters to injuries suffered last week: Defenders Wade Garrett, and Craig Waibel. In addition, they are without Ricardo Clark who is in the Confederations Cup Final against Brazil with Landon Donovan.

With it being a home game, and Houston being without three key players, we should be competitive.

New book on Beckham. You can read an excerpt at the link below. Makes me nervous about his return.

Just some thoughts from Section 131 last night...

Gordon trying to score on a breakaway = slow & comedic.
Line for the pregame $1 beer = slow & not comedic.
Seeing Klein come in finally = AWESOME.
Michael Jackson songs on the PA = AWESOME.
The dance crew pre-game (did anyone else think they looked like they were wearing black leggings with big white adult diapers) = NOT AWESOME.

Great win, Galaxy! What's our record with Donovan @ the Confeds Cup? 2W-2L? I'll take that!!!
  • Dear Galaxy, I love you for not allowing Houston to get any more points.

it will sure be nice to get Donovan back to setup some passing to Buddle and to have another offensive weapon.

good win and a tough one at that. damn, got pretty scrappy out there. Ricketts came up with some outstanding saves to keep the 3 points. would have liked to see Jordon get that goal at the end.

I cannot believe that we escaped with a victory tonight. Defense was tough all night, even after Gonzalez came out. Still have q's about the offense but it was enough tobight.

Houston looked gassed. Did they have a midweek game?

Kinda ugly win but I will take it.
  • David
    Yes! Klein. Finally.
  • David
Like the deserts miss the rain.

But right now I miss Klein. Remember when he used to play for the Galaxy?!
  • nathanhj
How much do we miss Landon right now?
  • David
What a play! AJ slides in and alights with the ball. Crosses it out to Lewis who drops it back in to Buddle, whose header goes just wide. Finally some style and excitement.
  • David
Hate to see Omar go out. Our central D now has a combined age of what, 72? And yes, please get Klein in there already!
  • nathanhj
Uh oh. Gonzalez injured. Sanneh in.
  • nathanhj
    Please put in Klein. Please.
  • nathanhj
Wow. So that was not the domination-fest I expected from the Dynamo. Both teams looked like they were running at half-speed.

Alan Gordon having a typical Alan Gordon game. Don't paly the ball to his feetM just feed him crosses in the box.

Magee actually doing a few good things, but not enough not conistently enough.

Kirovski completely pointless in this game. Just put in Klein already.

Backline getting it done. Berhalter settled down, delagarza shutting down Ashe, and Dunivant had the goal. Gonzalez a monster in the air and all over the middle of the pitch.

Buddle getting frustrated with lack of good pases to him, but he's also tried to be fancy a couple of times when a simple pass would have done the trick.

Need to get him more involved or the Dynamo is going to eventually put one past Ricketts.
  • nathanhj
Who sucked all the life out of the game?
  • David
You know you're in desperate shape when your left back is scoring your goals. But beggars can't be choosers and if Dunivant is willing to chip it in, I'll take it.
  • nathanhj
And the Lewis redeems himself with a cracking assist to Duni!
  • nathanhj
Alan Gordon can't score with his feet. Wide open look and he blsts wide.
  • nathanhj
Lewis and Berhalter are having a disastrous first 15 minutes...
  • nathanhj
Looks like the groubds crew gave the oitch a Brazilian. In the hair sense not the futbol sense.
  • George
Landon Donovan is now my favorite player in the world.

As for the Galaxy, Houston seems better than them in practically every position.
  • David
I still don't get starting Magee, Miglioranzi, and Kirovski, but leaving Klein on the bunch. I know he is a good sub, but I'd rather see him start and help power them forward and come off later, hopefully with a lead to defend.
  • nathanhj
The HDC is playing a bunch of Michael Jackson hits in the time before tha game. Nice touch.
  • nathanhj
    Starting lineup:

    Buddle - Gordon
    Lewis - Magee - Miglioranzi - Kirovski
    Dunivant - Berhalter - Gonzalez - Delagarza

Awesome. Kirovski's starting with Magee and Gordon. It's an offensive juggernaut.

    Well, it's offensive anyway.
  • David
I have been thinking about this upcoming game (for the few moments I am not distracted thinking about the one that starts in an hour) and I really have nothing to say. I'm just keeping my fingers crossed, hoping for the best and expecting the worst, yet again.
  • You're lucky. Our kickoff is at 1:00. They're going to show the first half on the big screen as it happens, then not show anything else or make announcements out of respect for those who want to DVR it and watch it at home. Then they'll show the second half after the game. A compromise that makes nobody completely happy.

Sigh. (But who could have predicted this even a week ago?)
