Poll: Galaxy Fans — Where Should Donovan Play?

By: jen | February 12th, 2010

You know, there is a lot of chatter out there in the soccer world about whether or not Donovan will remain at Everton. Many of the articles and blog posts I read state that most American soccer fans would like to see Donovan stay. However, the same writers often claim that Galaxy fans would rather have Landon return to the Galaxy.

Well, that’s not the sentiment that I’ve heard from you here. So what say you?

Hopefully the choices will make sense to you. These are the options that I see as possibilities for LD, ignoring what his current contract may or may not allow for. You can vote for more than one option. Feel free to discuss your answer in the comments.

Where do Galaxy fans want Donovan to play?(opinion)

Well, there is one thing that could keep Donovan at Everton: an MLS strike.

Anything he can to stay at Everton, period. Perfect team for him, daft fans, great football city (I'm on other side of the park but still...), great manager, no-star attitude in dressing room, solid team. Couldn't have found himself in a better spot and too bad if MLS has shackled him with too big a price tag. Everton don't have a lot of money or dead weight, and beyond the transfer fee there's the salary to come up with. Much as team and fans love him, they still might be forced to look for someone younger if MLS keep them waiting or ask too much for him. If they have the chance, every player deserves to play wherever they can perform at their best. Donovan certainly deserves to stay -- I've never been as big a fan of some, but I'm seeing a new side I'd not before and good for anyone who has the willingness and ability to grow like that. (Not impugning his past...it's him that's talked about maturing as a player "and person" this year).

Glad to see Landon doing well at Everton. Hopefully EPL competition will keep him in top-form for the World Cup. Moving back to the Galaxy by the start of the MLS season might disrupt his rhythm, and he wouldn't see the same quality of opposition day in and day out. It's best for Landon and for USMNT if he stays at Everton until the Cup.

David, I think you are right. However, I bet Moyes can come up with that for next season. I'm sure he has some dead weight he can offload. Landon is finally in the form where he can actually get 10m for a transfer.

I knew it all along folks! Never doubted it! :)

I posted this in response to the last thread, but the bottom line here is money. I'm sure Landon would like to stay at Everton and I'm sure they would like to keep him. But the reason Moyes has been downplaying that possibility is because they can't afford him. MLS will not accept less than $10 million and Everton haven't got it to spend.

He's tearing it up in England! He should not come back for a long time. I am a huge Galaxy fan, but I'd hate for him to stay here and waste his talent.
