Posh Does Designer Duds and Reality TV
By: Laurie | February 27th, 2007Okay, first thing, I’m probably not the person to ask about high fashion. When it comes to buying clothes, I have two criteria:
1) Will this get me in and out of the store really, really fast?, and
2) Will this keep me from being naked?
Yes to both? Well, here’s my credit card.
Although I did actually once own a Barbie doll. But I don’t remember spending much time on the fashion aspect. Or on trying to get those stupid little shoes on her stupid, pointy feet. I mostly just tried to get her to ride horses. So maybe I shouldn’t offer my opinion here. (Although if you come across a Barbie in desperate need of emergency action because her leg has become detached at the hip? Well, fear not, folks. I’m a professional.)
But anyhow. Posh has apparently signed a contract that allows her label dVb (David and Victoria Beckham — get it?) to create designer jeans in Canada. Jeans which will sell for up to $650 a pair.
$650. Yes, that’s six-hundred-and-fifty dollars.
Truly, I don’t know what I find more pathetic — people who think their lives will be somehow more complete with $650 jeans, or people who take advantage of these people’s insecurities to make money.
But moving along, and speaking of money. NBC has offered Posh Spice Victoria $10 million for a reality TV show which will give American viewers an idea of what our Posh is going through in the dramatic, traumatic move to America.
Says Victoria’s agent, Simon Fuller: “The Americans were falling over themselves to sign Victoria up for a TV show, but we had to choose the right deal for her. NBC won out in the end as they have really taken a shine to Vic’s hilarious sense of humour and they want to capitalise on this. She is a funny lady and this new series will show this to the world.”
Okay. I suppose “hilarious sense of humor” can mean “ability to laugh.” And Victoria does have that. She is not an unpleasant person. Ability to make others laugh with you, though? I guess we’ll see.
While we’re waiting, check out this Ant and Dec interview with Victoria Beckham. I have to say, I found their interview with David kind of charming. Victoria, though? I don’t know. I actually don’t dislike her (aside from the obvious cautionary tale about the dangers of too much sun and botox,) but there’s just something…
I guess it’s that everything you ever see or hear about Victoria seems to end up being about money, doesn’t it? She’s always either slurping it up or ostentatiously spitting it out.
Although it is kind of fun here to watch her take a few soccer balls to the abdominal area.
Or maybe I’m wrong. Let me know what you think. Will the TV show be a success?
