Posh: If You’ll Be in my TV Show, I’ll Study Scientology!

By: Laurie | May 1st, 2007

It wasn’t all that long ago that one of the many “sources” on Posh Spice Beckham was saying that there was no way she’d look at Scientology because they want money and stuff. But now the ever-credible British tabloid the Daily Mail is saying that’s not the case. And David is not happy about this turn of events.

Her decision comes after relations with new friends Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes cooled over the Beckhams’ apparent lack of interest in the religion.

Following Mrs Beckham’s rumoured commitment to learn more, the Cruises are said to have agreed in principle to appear in a £10 million fly-on-the-wall documentary about her new life in the U.S. It will be shown on the NBC network this summer.

Mrs Beckham, 33, is under pressure from producers at Simon Fuller’s 19TV to fill the show with celebrities for fear of it failing to impress American audiences.

She is said to have told the Cruises she will study the teachings of L. Ron Hubbard, the science fiction writer who founded Scientology, and attend meetings once she and husband David move to Los Angeles.

Because Reality TV trumps spiritual conviction every time.

I love scientology. It’s the only religion I have no scruples about making fun of, and so it sort of takes the pressure off all of the silly aspects of some of the others, because in the case of all the others, I have this voice in my head that tells me I should respect other people’s beliefs. When those beliefs revolve around millenia-old traditions and the basic idea that people should be nice to each other, fine, I’m there. But when there are spaceships and crazy fake machines that tell you how evolved you are, nuh uh. That’s just crazy. Has anyone here ever met a scientologist? Are any normal people scientologists? If they weren’t all celebrities obsessed with their hair staying perfect, these people would be walking around wearing aluminum foil hats to block the alien’s mind rays.

Be afraid, Becks, be very afraid.

Do unto to others as one does unto your tv show.
