Quick! Go Vote for Beckham! Goal A, not Goal B
By: Laurie | May 5th, 2008I got busy today and didn’t get a chance to post this earlier, but there’s no time like the present.
Go vote for David’s goal! They’re both nominated, which is not necessarily a good thing. The vote is getting split between Goal A and Goal B. Between the two of them, they have 48% of the vote, but Goal A, the top vote-getter, has only 40% on its own, while Chris Rolfe’s goal has 44%.
Does this seem right to you? I thought not.
I think we need to jettison Goal B. Just toss it out of consideration entirely, and concentrate on voting for Goal A between now and Wednesday. Are you with me here? Then go vote!
P.S. Does anybody else think they need a similar vote for Best Sweaty Hugging Male-Bonding Goal Celebration?
Oh. Wait. Have I just revealed too much?

There is a cool LA website that does a bi-weekly (every 2 weeks, not twice a week) column on sports. I wrote to the writer twice to get some Galaxy coverage. The second time I wrote ahead of the SuperClassico game and he had a paragraph about it in there. This week there was an update and no mention of the Galaxy or Becks’ two goals. If anyone wants to check out the site and email the writer here is the link:
http://www.laobserved.com/sports/
I fear that if I’m the only one asking for Galaxy coverage my emails will eventually be ignored.

One more thing, Phi appears to be the main writer, not Jacob, who wrote the post that is currently at the top of the page.

Sorry for all the off topic comments, but what’s the deal with Ruiz? Next week will be 6 weeks since the injury.

Can’t believe Rolfe is gonna win goal of the week, it’s a nice goal but not as fantastic as either goals from Beckham. I think people are just jumping on his goal ’cause they’re anti-Galaxy and Beckham.

I was looking at the players of the week and the Galaxy have it covered pretty good:
2008 Player of the Week Winners
Week 1: Terry Cooke (Colorado Rapids)
Week 2: David Beckham (Los Angeles Galaxy)
Week 3: Guillermo Barros Schelotto (Columbus Crew)
Week 4: Landon Donovan (Los Angeles Galaxy)
Week 5: Landon Donovan (Los Angeles Galaxy)
Week 6: David Beckham (Los Angeles Galaxy)Posted from

Just looked at Rolfe’s goal for the first time, thinking I might consider voting on merit IF the goal was really that good. But it actually doesn’t come close to Becks A. I figured people might think Becks had more space than he would usually have been allowed to set up the first goal, but no more than Rolfe did.
So, our votes are clearly not being counted! How many times can one vote by the way? On the subject of which, Laurie, have you notified the kickettes?

Jan, there are probably thousands of people voting. Last week’s total attendance at MLS games was around 100,000. If 20% of those people are voting (20,000), it would take about 200 votes to move one percentage point. Thats a quick estimate, since not all 20,000 votes go in at once, but as time goes on, more votes are part of the equation, and it takes more votes to move the percentages. I wouldn’t get paranoid about it.
