Real Madrid vs. Galaxy? (Maybe) Seriously This Time.

By: Laurie | March 30th, 2007

You know how first I said we were going to play Real Madrid? And then I said the Galaxy front office had denied it? Well, not so fast.

Despite earlier denials from Galaxy administration, it appears likely that Real Madrid is planning a return trip to the U.S. to face the Los Angeles squad. Ramon Calderon, the team’s president, has just completed a visit to the U.S. and confirmed to the press in Spain that a tour is being planned for June, shortly after Real Madrid’s season in Europe wraps up.

So it looks like my navy-and-gold fireworks are still a possibility.

Actually, what I really think happened? I think that the Galaxy weren’t interested until they read my blog. But I came up with such fantastic and intriguing ideas, (smoke machines! fireworks! the theme from “Rocky!) that they said, “Yes! We have to do that!”

Yeah, I’m pretty sure that’s what happened. (And when this actually plays out? You read it here first.)

Real Madrid will probably also be playing other games with MLS teams. (Crossing my fingers for another Seattle game. The last one was tons of fun.)

Real Madrid vs DC United in Seattle again would be sweet.

Might as well send the best to represent MLS.

DC United did impress me at that game, particularly their defense. And Freddy Adu bent it like Beckham better than Beckham. They got an impressive draw from the match, which was far more than anybody expected.

Real Madrid was so dramatic and melodramatic, though, that they made it hard to concentrate on DC. A very exciting team to watch. Even if they had a very hard time putting it in the net. I really hope they come back here this year.
