Ronaldinho? Are You Serious?
By: jen | June 17th, 2008
Hmm. Turns out the Galaxy front office has been trying to work a deal to bring Ronaldinho to the team. According to Goal.com, they won’t be successful. But it’s left me with a few questions. How can we afford that? Would we dump our bench and Ruiz or Donovan? Ruiz and Donovan are grandfathered-in DPs, Beckham is not. But I think Becks, while technically a DP, is sort of in his own category?
So even though it won’t work out I’m sitting here thinking about the team with Ronaldinho. Can you imagine? Wow. Just . . . wow. I would LOVE to see the footwork of ‘Dinho in this league! And kudos to the front office for having the cojones to go after him. I guess once you’ve got Beckham, the sky’s the limit.

goal.com?
You should take the exact opposite of what the article said and that may be somewhat remotely close to reality.Posted from

TRUST ME, you do NOT want him on your team. EVER.

There are other sources, but they all say the same thing. Well, except for the “Daily Star” which says it’s “in the works.” lol Getting Beckham was a huge, HUGE coup. But if players like this actually ARE becoming available and interested then MLS is going to have to change a lot to make it happen.
The whole thing really is laughable.

And just to be clear, insert a “rolling eyes” emoticon after the title of this post. If you ever think you are reading sarcasm from me, you ARE reading sarcasm.

it’s obvious the league would come up with a special brazillians(those who happen to play for the galaxy) not counting as dp rule

It would be great to see him play for us but we need a creative Center Mid and a quick and strong Center Back. That should be the priority

This is Pep Guardiola (new Barca manager) jumping into the transfer-rumor-for-$$$-and/or-player’s-minds game. With Lalas happy enough to jump in for the publicity.
Guardiola announced yesterday that Deco, Eto’o and Ronaldinho were “not part of his plans.” Don’t know what he has against Deco, but Ronaldinho and Eto’o have been chafing since Eto’o got there, and now Ronaldinho has sort of been AWOL for the end of the season.
BUT, no club in their right mind has ever announced their intention of letting go of a player who is that financially valuable. Their opening announcement would be that they would never let [fill in blank] for all of the money in the world, they are the son they never had, etc etc….followed by a few leaks regarding astronomical sums allegedly offered.
Here’s the fine print which confirms my theory that Guardiola is trying to challenge Ronaldinho to pull himself together and recommit heart, soul, and a little more effort, to the club (having announced that Eto’o will no longer be a challenge to him in the locker room), from the Guardian http://www.guardian.co.uk/football/2008/jun/18/laligafootball.barcelona?gusrc=rss&feed=football: Guardiola said he would love to see Ronaldinho recapture his best form for Barcelona but believes that scenario is unlikely. “If I felt that he wanted to be the player he was again, he would be here.”
The Galaxy front office might be using the rumor to signal that they’re looking for some classy talent, but even if its not Ronaldinho, how WILL they pay for anyone else?
Otherwise, clubs just love transfer season because attaching their name to any marque player requires not the faintest hint of truth and gets lots of headlines.

former Dutch international Edgar Davids has been training with the Galaxy, although he just stopped by to see his old friend Rudd and train with the team a little. would be interesting to see him on the team roster.

Glen beat me to it with the Davids news… while he’s definitely no Ronaldinho, he’d definitely be a great addition to our roster…

Ah yes! He would be quite the addition. However, there’s no room in the inn.

Unless we wanted to give up Donovan, Davids would take a hell of a paycut. I can’t really see that happening.

If Edgar comes to LA I want his glasses. We could have a dreadlocks revival movement….
If Ronaldinho came to LA I’d live on the street to get season tix.
