America! F$#& yeah!
With all the scoring coming in the second half, we have clinched World Cup Qualifying with a decisive 3-2 victory over Honduras.
See the highlights on ussoccer.com.
Guess who played one of the best games of his life? Ohhhhhhhh Landon Donovan!
From Paul Oberjuerge’s blog:
–Landon Donovan. We have decided he is the best field player in the history of American soccer, right? The discussion is closed. Landon is No. 1. The End. Second-best field player is open to debate. Eric Wynalda, John Harkes, Claudio Reyna, Clint Dempsey. You all can go to a corner and figure it out. But No. 1 is done. Landon Donovan … the guy who threaded the pass to Casey that resulted in the second goal … and the man who channeled David Beckham (at his best) on the third (and eventually decisive) goal by bending a 25-yard restart over the end of a Honduras defensive wall and into the upper-right corner of the net. Exquisite.
I was up late last night (Virginia time) following the match on Twitter, I’ve only had one ounce of my 30 ounces a day coffee habit, and I’m watching my girls float Pop Tart and Band Aid wrappers over the banister as “parachutes,” but I couldn’t wait to come here and share my excitement. I’m actually go to be at the Costa Rica match in D.C. on Wednesday, so I’ll have crappy photos and a first person account for you later this week.
What others are saying:
I’m sure many, many more articles and reports will surface as the country awakens this Sunday morning. But this list will get you started.
Yippee!
