Honduras US Wcup Soccer

America! F$#& yeah!

With all the scoring coming in the second half, we have clinched World Cup Qualifying with a decisive 3-2 victory over Honduras.

See the highlights on ussoccer.com.

Guess who played one of the best games of his life? Ohhhhhhhh Landon Donovan!

From Paul Oberjuerge’s blog:

–Landon Donovan. We have decided he is the best field player in the history of American soccer, right? The discussion is closed. Landon is No. 1. The End. Second-best field player is open to debate. Eric Wynalda, John Harkes, Claudio Reyna, Clint Dempsey. You all can go to a corner and figure it out. But No. 1 is done. Landon Donovan … the guy who threaded the pass to Casey that resulted in the second goal … and the man who channeled David Beckham (at his best) on the third (and eventually decisive) goal by bending a 25-yard restart over the end of a Honduras defensive wall and into the upper-right corner of the net. Exquisite.

I was up late last night (Virginia time) following the match on Twitter, I’ve only had one ounce of my 30 ounces a day coffee habit, and I’m watching my girls float Pop Tart and Band Aid wrappers over the banister as “parachutes,” but I couldn’t wait to come here and share my excitement. I’m actually go to be at the Costa Rica match in D.C. on Wednesday, so I’ll have crappy photos and a first person account for you later this week.

I am so frustrated that they didn’t show the match anywhere. I was getting my updates (which were few and far between) from the FIFA site. I didn’t hear about the penalty until after Pavon missed, which is just as well.

Ah, Carlos Pavon. You finally got one right for us. :-)

A friend was watching on the internet and texting me updates. For the last 15 minutes I could barely stand still, texting him over and over, what now? What now? Such a relief to win and be in!

I can’t believe its not even being replayed anywhere. Sentanta (non-subscription) showed 2 day delayed reruns of ppv, or previously unavailable, matches all day yesterday, and a few were sprinkled on other channels, but no US :-( . You’d think SOMEONE (hello, FSC) could spring for a clearance sale copy and broadcast it in the middle of the night for those of us still interested.

I did Colin, it’s on my fridge right now, where all the papers of significance are kept in this house. :) I think it’s next to my 4 year-old reward chart.

Get well Charlie. We love you.

That should be “4 year-old’s.” If I have a 4 year old reward chart on my fridge then I could probably use some more therapy. :)
