See All the 2006 MLS Games. Wait, No, Just Kidding
By: Laurie | February 27th, 2007Here we continue the exciting, ongoing saga of Laurie Trying to Watch 2006 Galaxy Games.
If you’ll remember back to right before Valentine’s Day, I recommended this service from MLSnet. Hey, $10 to watch every game from the 2006 season? Cheap entertainment. And I really assumed that it was only a matter of time till they got their technical difficulties fixed and I could actually watch the games. Am I a sucker or what?
So here’s the timeline:
Jan. 26: I order the service but can’t get the links to work
Feb. 7: I finally find time to call. After getting put on hold several times for no apparent reason, I reach somebody who discovers that MLSnet has never enabled the links that would allow anyone to watch the games. He says he’s sending a request up to Tech Support and it should be fixed “in a few hours.”
Feb. 13: Still no links. I follow up with an e-mail to Customer Service. No response.
Feb. 20: I call again, 4:00 p.m. and get a recording that says they’re closed and will reopen at 6:00a.m. PST. No word on what time they close.
Feb. 22: I call again, this time at 3:15. They’re closed.
Feb. 23: I call again at 1:58. Call five times, get a busy signal each time.
Feb 26: I call yet again. This time at 1:56. Apparently those two minutes make the difference, because I get through. The rep is amazed to discover that MLS has never enabled the links. He contacts his supervisor, who is also amazed. Together they forward something to Tech Support, and the rep says it will be fixed “within a few hours.” Whoa, deja vu.
Feb. 27. (Which would be today): Still no freakin’ links. I am starting to get pissed. I send another e-mail, this one containing the word “fraud.” (Do you think they’re scared? If I were them, I would be scared. Truly, would you want to piss me off?)
Seriously, though, I don’t care if it’s ten bucks. They take money to provide a service, they should provide the effing service or refund the money.
Okay, I’m done venting now.
But if you have connections to MLSnet? I want my games.
The end.

Any news on if the Frenchman has made the squad?? I’d love to see any young players with talent that are sitting in the big leagues in Europe get a shot over here. If we can’t afford the best players, at least spend what little we have on the best product available. More attractive soccer will attract more fans (not that LA has any problems with accomplishing that, but many of the other teams need all the help they can get)

Call Ralph Nader!
I have a suspicion some people from our Marketing dept. might be moonlighting for MLSnet. That’s just about the dumbest customer service I’ve heard about.

That’s good work there, Laurie. Hard hitting stuff. Your restraint is commended–whereas you used the word “fruad,” I might have said “bomb.” Seriously though, keep us up to date on this, I’ll see if I can apply some pressure myself.

Unfortunately, MLSnet is pretty much a joke as far as official websites go. The news work is slow, vague, and often not even worth reading and the features are very limited. If they’re serious about an American soccer league establishing itself both in the arena of American professional sports and in the arena of global footballing, you would think they’d bring the league into the 21st century and have a decent website.

I just have a question - why are you trying to see the 2006 games anyway? Just to reminisce? It’s not like the Galaxy had a great season last year that you’d want to relive it. Am I missing something?

Oh, NOW I get it. Sorry. I clicked on your link about your previous post. I should have clicked on it before I posted the first time. Sorry.

Actually, Lane, the answer to why I want to see the games is not so much in the post I linked to, but in this post. Truth is, I’m a fan of European soccer who is currently teaching myself to love MLS. I know only the basics about how the Galaxy play.
My goal in watching the games is to bring myself up to speed on the players and how they play. (Or even in some cases WHERE they play, as in right vs. left, or attacking vs. holding midfield, etc. As sorry as I am to admit that.) As an example, I see that they’re probably going with 4-3-3 when Beckham arrives, but I have no clue if that’s what they did last year of if it will be a new, Beckham-related thing.
So I desperately need to see a few of last year’s games to give myself a baseline to see what they’re trying to improve on this year. And yes, I’ve already braced myself for it to be ugly.

And fcm, I haven’t heard anything about Laurent since the Bermuda trip. Roster day is tomorrow, so we should know then. (Crossing fingers that he’ll get to be a “developmental player.”)
I’m also hoping that the talent swap will go both ways across the Atlantic.
