Serious Questions About Beckham’s Judgment

By: Laurie | June 21st, 2007

black-pudding.jpgOne thing that seems to have gone unnoticed in all the hoopla over the Real Madrid win for David Beckham is this little sentence, tucked away in an article about the post-game celebrations:

“David ordered black pudding, a Spanish speciality he asks for every time he comes.”

Black pudding? Every time he comes? Are they serious?

I’m sorry, David. I’m not sure if this will make others question your judgment the way I currently am, but…well…EWWW!! At the very least, I’m afraid this means we cannot be friends.

What is black pudding, you ask? Well, Americans, I’ll tell you. Black pudding is what caused me to lose my breakfast in the Heathrow loo last time I visited England, when I was three months pregnant.

According to one website:

Black pudding or blood pudding as it’s also known, is an English delicacy consisting mainly of congealed pigs’ blood and fat mixed with oatmeal.

Oooooh. Sounds yummy, right? And on our England trip our British friend, knowing full well I was in the throes of morning sickness, proceeded to describe for us exactly how the pudding was made, starting with the slaughtering process. This as we were traveling in a farm-scented car which our buddies used to transport goats as well as friends.

Believe it or not, that particular car ride does not top my list of Wonderful European Memories.

And by the way? If any of you plan to make a black pudding gift to David to welcome him to our shores?

Please just don’t tell me, okay?

Nick, I can’t even look at that photo without it turning my stomach. This reminds me of the difference between heaven and hell:

    In Heaven:

    The cooks are French,
    The policemen are English,
    The mechanics are German,
    The lovers are Italian,
    The bankers are Swiss.

    In Hell:

    The cooks are English,
    The policemen are German,
    The mechanics are French,
    The lovers are Swiss,
    The bankers are Italian.
