Shavar, We Hardly Knew Ye (OR: Off to Chivas You Go)
By: Laurie | May 5th, 2007
I really had high hopes for Shavar Thomas. When we acquired him in March, all of the BigSoccer posts from his former team, the Kansas City Wizards, sang his praises and said we’d gotten a steal.
But now it seems that this steal is going to Chivas USA.
“This move reflects a change in the circumstances surrounding our current and future defensive personnel,” Galaxy President and General Manager Alexi Lalas said. “We thank Shavar for his efforts and wish him much success with his new team.”
Or, in other words, why would we pay Shavar $70,000 when we have rookie draft pick Ty Harden doing the same job for $17,700? It’s a cold, cruel, money-driven world, Shavar. We’ll miss you.
But know that you will not be forgotten. I will forever remember you for these wonderful words of wisdom about our new sponsor:
“Five for marijuana, three for Herbalife.”
That says it all, doesn’t it?

Whatever happened to the players strike? For just ONE match day. Just to show how far the gazillions being invested in marketing and infrastructure will go in “building the league” if they aren’t paying enough to field the teams (solidarity being forever we would expect full participation of course).
